On The Road with JamBase: Dirty On Purpose

Posted Sat Sep 27, 2008 5:35pm PDT by Aaron Kayce in On the Road With JamBase
Boasting one of the best band names around, Dirty On Purpose make some damn fine music as well. With fuzzy guitars, ambient swells, and epic peaks of noise, the indie-pop-rockers have drawn comparisons to My Bloody Valentine and the Jesus & Mary Chain. But what sets this Brooklyn four-piece apart from such acts is their sweet tooth for melody. Instead of constantly bashing you over the head with walls of distortion, Dirty On Purpose often pull back the volume as they bust out acoustic guitars and allow their dreamy clouds of comfort to wash over you. But don't get the wrong idea, while they explore their softer side on record – even bringing in female vocalists to flesh out 2008's Like Bees--their live show explodes with energy, often crushing the listener with their attack. On tour now with The Wedding Present, check dates here for your chance to get dirty.
