Michelle Lewis: "Even Jews Get the Blues on Christmas "  (MP3, 2:55)

On being Jewish at Christmas-time...

War on Christmas?  Feh!

Not here in my neck of the San Fernando Valley, where literally every house, and I mean, EVERY house on the block has lights up, including my own.  I might add that several families inside those houses on my block are Jewish, um, including my own.  No one wants to be the buzz kill, I guess.

Some big faker on Fox news thought he could create some kind of anti-PC frenzy by fanning this non-story.  But ask any Jewish person you know - it ain't so.

Christmas still kicks the ass of any other December holiday.  I don't EXPECT any one to look at me and say "Happy Chanuka" in all seriousness... in fact... I'd probably think they were f**king with me if they did.  "Merry Christmas," "Happy Holidays"... it all sounds like "blah blah blah blah blah."  It's just something retailers say this time of year instead of ‘have a nice day."  I know, I know, you want to put the "Christ" back in Christmas.  If you care that much about the religious part, why not wish me a happy Day of the Second Assumption as well, huh?  You won't - because it's all about Christmas, The Season.

Yeah, I get really ornery about this whole "war on Christmas" nonsense.  The phrase "Happy Holidays" may seem like an attack on all-things-Christian to Bill O Reilly, but from where I stand, it's a tiny little nod to the possibility that other holidays exist. That's all. No one is trying to undermine the awesomeness of the day, believe me.  That would be like shooting spitballs at the sun.

Personally, I'm looking forward to having the day off with nothing to do but watch movies and order Chinese take out.

You can look at this picture while you listen to the song...

Michelle Lewis: "Even Jews Get the Blues on Christmas "  (MP3, 2:55)

Oh, and here are the lyrics -

"Even Jews Get the Blues (on Christmas)"

Middle of December
Feeling a familiar malaise
Tinsel in the windows
Red and green for miles
And I'm down for days

So much something over nothing to do
But a lame blockbuster movie and some Chinese food...

Even Jews Get the Blues on Christmas
Even Chanuka babes feel the crush
We all eat too much, don't drink enough
And pray for New Years Day
Even Jews get the blues on Christ.... Mas

Back when I was younger
Christmas Eve, I'd lie in bed awake
Listening for reindeer
Praying hard that Santa could make one mistake

But I'm finally accepting my plight
Either marry me a Catholic or give up the fight

Even Jews Get the Blues on Christmas
Even atheists and Muslims feel the pain
Of the endless whines, the last on lines
And so much left to do
Even Jews get the blues on Christ.... Mas

Chanuka Shmanuka, everyone knows it's Christmas-lite
As if candles and latkes are meant to be some consolation prize
Though I can't spin a dreidle, I know all the verses to Silent Night

Even Jews Get the Blues on Christmas
Even Buddhists could lose all their zen
From the crowded malls, the decked out halls
On someone else's day
Even Jews get the blues on Christ.... Mas
And I'll sing the songs, it won't be long
Cause Santa's on his way (but not for me)
Even Jews get the blues on Christ.... Mas

I would have to agree with the song. Not many people see that the Jewish holiday is something much. If people took the time to understand the meaning of the Jewish holiday then maybe they would know that the holiday is not just about eating and lighting the candeles but being grateful about what we have in life and about our heritage.

Schools, stores, and other places never write happy holidays but they write Merry Christmas when there are people with different religions. Kwanza, Hannukah, and more that are not recognized by our society of people trying to make money off of Christmas shoppers. It is all commercial and not about religion.

The song is fabulous, but alas, if your mother were a Jew, even marrying a Catholic won't help. All winter equinox holidays should be celebrated on the same day, and called Hope, Honor, and Humanity Day.

eat your chinese food all of you jealous people.. ahahah for once something is not all about you!!!

Claudia, people like you start wars. You are incorrect and racist. Religions are part of peoples' cultures and all religions should be treated with respect and treated equally. Maybe you should eat some chinese food, it will make you broden your horizons of different cultures and religious holidays.

Who ever left the comment before me, is right and his or her view is empowering.

Christmas is not about santa and toys the real reason is the lord Jesus christ's birthday if you choose not to follow your savoir then have a good time in hell, light your candles but always remember how your people not only killed Jesus but tortured him, let your children hang on a cross you'll know how god feels

Fred

Seems you are carrying a heavy burden. Wishing you a merry Christmas with the hope that the New Year brings you tranquility and the love that Jesus sought to spread to all. When you do, you will have lifted the hate you spill toward your brothers.

Fred,

People who are rude and nasty will have their time with god. It realy does not matter what religion you are but the way you lived your life and what good deeds you did to others and through life. If you hate the jewish people so much then why were you even listening to this music that was by Michelle Lewis ( she is JEWISH ).
REAL believers of Christ are not RASCIST.
Have a great life hating people of different back rounds..............

nice voice. not all religious extremists are muslim Fred in your point of view nobody went to heaven before Christ was born because they couldn't have known Christ and accepted him as their savior, instead of hating jews with such unchristian venom you should pray for your enemies, real or percieved, as Christ taught MERRY CHRISTMAS HAPPY HANNUKA HAPPY QUANSA

Another great song, Michelle. I particularly like;

Christmas Eve, I'd lie in bed awake
Listening for reindeer
Praying hard that Santa could make one mistake

I can just see a little kid in bed muttering, "Please, please, please," over and over.

You found that hot button topic that gets people to finally post again. Sex? Nope. Drugs? Nope. Politics? Nope. God? Bingo.

Ah! It saddens me when I see that many people fail to realize that Christmas is really the antithesis of religious fanaticism. I am speaking about both the "Christians" and the "non-Christians." The essence of Christmas is love that expresses itself in self-sacrifice. The message of Christmas is that you and I can break free from the accidental restraints of ethnicities, nationalities, and religions and glorify the Creator in ourselves by trying to fill ourselves with love, which is GOD himself/herself.

Fred, do you know how hard it was growing up Jewish? Not only did I have to deal with the guilt and knowledge that I would eventually go to hell -but it was so difficult to hide the horns on my head. Have a little Christmas love and kindness.

16. Blessyou -
It saddens me to see that the meaning of Christmas is often lost on people. Christmas is the celebration of real love, the very essence of God. Christmas proclaims that if filled with love, you and I will not hesitate a moment to give up even our own lives for our fellow human beings. Christmas should enable us to break free from the accidental restraints of race, class, caste, nationality, color, sex, and religion - especially religion because Christ was Jewish, after all. True Love knows no bounds. It transcends all classifications. Love alone can realize for us the experience of heaven, here and elsewhere. So, Merry Christmas is a great wish for every one. If you believe a "Happy Hanukkah" or any other greeting can be more meaningful than a "Merry Christmas," go ahead, and wish me a happy anything. The important thing is that you wish me well. And I am grateful for that.

Ha! I'm so glad you got the visual, Vincent!
I spent several years as a kid trying to figure out how exactly Santa could discern the kids who celebrated Christmas from the ones who didn't. I decided Santa must have something like superpowers - telepathy and an acute sense of smell (to smell the cookies left out for him). The debacle that followed involved a Ouiji board, an Easy-Bake oven, a smoke alarm and our next door neighbor's wreath. This resulted in my parents having to debunk the whole Santa fantasy for me once and for all.

Pathetic, but true story.

Glad you like the song.

And Happy Holidays to everyone else!

xo - Michelle

Cute song. I like the cheer in the air at this time. I like shopping on black friday, I like gathering with family. I like how people are nicer during the Christmas season. Those are things I like, I love going to Midnight Mass and celebrating the Mass of of the birth of the Christ, which is what Christ-Mas is really supposed to be about. So if you want to do away with Santa and all the shopping, and all the gifts, thats fine. God has given us all the most important gift, the infant in Swaddling clothes. As a Catholic I wish the retailers would focus on Chanuka and leave Christmas alone, maybe then we could reclaim it for what it truley is. Consider yourself blessed that the money lovers have left your religous holiday alone. So a Merry Christmas to all my fellow Christians, and a Happy Chanuka to all our Jewish friends, to the rest of ya, get your own holiday.

Fred, your the kind of false Christian that forced me to walk away from Christ, thank heavens some real christians found me and help me find my way back. For all those who are Jewish, please don't let Fred's hatred mold your thoughts about Christians, true Christianity does not have a doctrine of hate, anyone familar with the story of Christ, knows that it wasn't Jews only, but that it was all of us, it was my sins and your sins and yes even freddie boys sins that put Jesus of Nazareth on that cross. Let us all pray for each other this Christmas season.
Merry Christmas to all

I do love the Winter Solstice, I can see why Christians thought it would be a good idea to hijack this ancient festival.

Killing a few cattle and having a feast, after all the hard winter is ahead so time to fatten up and save on cattle feed. Oh and the wine and beer we made this summer has just fermented so maybe we should eat drink and be merry. And lets bring in the 'evergreens' and celebrate mother nature; maybe but a new log on the fire, perform a fertility rite under the mistletoe and generally lift the spirits.

Happy Solstice everyone
