Jimmy Page & John Paul Jones: The 2007 Interview

Posted Fri Nov 30, 2007 2:46pm PST by Dave DiMartino in Led Zeppelin's Return Flight

On Friday, Nov. 16th, Y! Music was lucky enough to get an audience with Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones.

In excellent form, both very warm and friendly, the pair detailed the events leading up to the planned Dec. 10th reunion concert and offered their one-of-a-kind perspective on being lifelong members of this very phenomenal band.

We at Y! Music thank Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and of course their label for making this very exclusive interview possible. We hope you're one of the lucky people who actually get to witness December's performance.

Enjoy!

Remembering the days of getting stoned and rocking out to whole lotta love and tripping smooth out on the song and then getting there first album and going far out ! This band has been long over due as far as getting back together they should have done this 15 yrs ago. Look at the Stones those guys look like death on stage but they are still together after all these yrs and why well because it works for them and its really all they know how to do and that is rock n roll.. THANK YOU JIMMY, JOHN PAUL AND ROBERT IT'S ABOUT TIME !

All I gotta say on the subject of them doing this "just for the money", is if that were the case then why didn't they do it back in the 90's when they did a reunion on stage WITH Jason Bonham for I think it was Atlantic Records 25th Anniv. I know that I would have gone to the show if they had done a reunion tour then, AND I can almost bet that all of their fans on this thread would have too. The reasoning they gave was that they would not do it just for the money, the timing had to be right. Also, I highly doubt that they are so starved for money considering that all 4 of them do have their fingers in many different pots. As for a US tour, IF they were to do it, I would LOVE to go. Just to see them live. I was born in '72 so I missed them the first time around, but the music of Zepplin influenced my life in many ways musically. I do know that when they did that record company gig in the 90's Jason sounded just like his Dad behind that kit. They did an AWESOME job, and I just hope there is at least a live album from this show on the 10th.

Does anyone know if this concert will be televised?

The only Rock and Roll Reunion that could be possibly better than BLACK SABBATH`S Reunion would be that of Page,Plant, and Jones. Could there be a LED ZEPPELIN without John Bonham? I am sure he would look down from Heaven and smile and wish them well.

Tell it like it is Steve B!

Hey, I'm 18 years old and loving Led Zeppelin. This band still lives on to inspire my generation as well as future generations. I wish I was old enough to have experienced the best rock group of all time, but what are you going to do?

My oldest brother still has his ticket from the cancelled tour after John's death framed. I used to steal his albums and take them to my future guitar player's house to listen to them in the late seventies....I could go on.
All nay-sayers recognize!
Led Zeppelin created some of the best and most influential rock-n-roll riffs and poetic lyrics of all time! Having connections at many rungs in the musical ladder in my life I can tell you that they influenced more people than the newer artists who merely sing songs written by real musicians ever will.
A sad state of affairs in the new industry.
There are twelve notes in western musical theory and Zep knew how to use them all to paint an aural picture upon the pallet known as the human soul. They invoke a picture of words and musical harmony at their softest and pure animal lust at their hardest. I thank them for both eternally.
A spectrum of emotion in every new album was their legacy and it was brilliant to the point of overwhelming to a generation who knew how to TAKE TIME for introspection.
Led Zeppelin plays anthems to the human condition, dreams of the past, and fantasies of our imagining.
Recognize!

led zeppelin, the best thing that ever happened to music. i only wish john bonham were alive for this. rock and roll died when he did. i will forever worship led zeppelin. maybe with all this media coverage more kids my age will undertand why they are the best band ever. i would give my life to see them perform just once. then i could die a happy man.

Pinetop Perkins' 80-year career still going

AP
Fri Nov 27, 2009 4:03am PST

AP - Noisy crowds in smoky bars don't bother 96-year-old bluesman Pinetop Perkins. It's all part of his job. Most nights, after he snuffs out his menthol cigarette, Perkins slides onto the piano bench in some club and … More »
