Jimmy Page & John Paul Jones: The 2007 Interview

Posted Fri Nov 30, 2007 2:46pm PST by Dave DiMartino in Led Zeppelin's Return Flight

On Friday, Nov. 16th, Y! Music was lucky enough to get an audience with Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones.

In excellent form, both very warm and friendly, the pair detailed the events leading up to the planned Dec. 10th reunion concert and offered their one-of-a-kind perspective on being lifelong members of this very phenomenal band.

We at Y! Music thank Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and of course their label for making this very exclusive interview possible. We hope you're one of the lucky people who actually get to witness December's performance.

Enjoy!

zep pumped out more heavy riffs and solid songs that made me just a full fledge rocker guy . zep in the late 70s in the bay area was a part of raging teen fun - great tunes

I can't reconcile the old guy talking was the young Guitar God Jimmy Page. Do you think he can still play that twin neck guitar? He's probably arthritic! The thing about checking out early like Bonzo and Keith Moon did, was they'll never age in our minds. Rock on Zep!

Where's Robert? You can't have a Zepplin joint without the Plant.

Something tells me the "mighty Zeppelin" won't be so mighty in their reunion performance. I guess we'll find out though, huh? Nothing against Led Zeppelin of course, it's just that there is no way a bunch of sobered down old guys can play such horny, raw, and sometimes pretentious music the same way a bunch of crazy young guys can.

Also, "godfathers of metal"? Can we please end this long running myth? Yes, classic metal drew from Zeppelin and Deep Purple, but thrash metal drew a lot from hardcore punk, and no one calls the Dead Kennedys or the Misfits metal. Black Sabbath invented metal, and this is all the proof you need: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yntdJ1kDI4&feature=related

You yanks. Stop yer USA chants will ya? Led Zep was and is an english band. So tiresome. The world is sooo tired of yer crap. See how Jimmy Page is polite and humble in his interviews? Refreshing isn't it? U.S. entertainers, especially hip hoppers, are sickening to listen to. God bless true talent. Zeppelin rambles on!

Without any doubt this is the greatest rock band that has ever existed!

They started what everyone else copies.

I seen Led Zeppelin in 1978 (or was it '79) in Cincinnati; was the BEST show I ever got to see. Unfortunately, being at the Who in 79 ended my concert-going days. I would almost have to flip a coin between the two shows if it wasn't for a needless tradgedy. Zep is probably the only one of 3 or 4 artists I would venture back into a crowd of any magnitude of more than 100 or more people.

One good thing about being my age, I seen the real bands. Led Zep with Jethro Tull as warm up band, Led Zep 2 at San Diego when they had shut up the crowd so they could play The Immigrant Song which no one had ever heard yet as they hadn't released it. Ahhhhh, yeah!
