Jimmy Page & John Paul Jones: The 2007 Interview

Posted Fri Nov 30, 2007 2:46pm PST by Dave DiMartino in Led Zeppelin's Return Flight

On Friday, Nov. 16th, Y! Music was lucky enough to get an audience with Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones.

In excellent form, both very warm and friendly, the pair detailed the events leading up to the planned Dec. 10th reunion concert and offered their one-of-a-kind perspective on being lifelong members of this very phenomenal band.

We at Y! Music thank Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and of course their label for making this very exclusive interview possible. We hope you're one of the lucky people who actually get to witness December's performance.

Enjoy!

The greatest band ever. My favorite song is Since I've been loving you and the best version was done on Plant&Page's duet album "No Quarter" in 94. Oh, the way that song makes you feel.... is out of this world!! Also on that album, the version of Kashmir is so funky! I was born in 1971 and by then they were releasing Led Zeppelin IV. B/c of that group, I wish I was born earlier so I could have seen them when they were the [profane] I hope they come to the states.

I saw Page & Plant in San Antonio a few years ago, it was awesome but I was sad because I never got to see the real thing, and I am old enough to have had the opportunity.

Greatest rock band the world has ever seen. Have to feel sorry for ANY rock band that has come out in the last 30 years. With the Mighty Zep and the Mighty Van Halen taking the stage again, everyone else has pretty much been rendered obsolete.

Canada likes zeppelin too.

For those that were there, we are not in our 80's more like pushing our 60's, but we will forever be Zep fans. Of course the air may not be quite as smoke filled as it was then, (not a problem kids if you want to lite up a phat one), but I am disappointed that they sold the rights to the music after all these years of holding out. It was not just the music, but the attitude. People music. Not Commercialism. However, It was long overdue for the gang to get back together, and once again write history. Plant may not be able to hit the high notes, but who cares! I'm glad they are still here, and still playing. What I wonder is who will be the next Led Zeppelin. I pray that some youngsters will be inspired to shake the world in a way these guys did. The pop and hip-hop scene, while popular, does not produce the originality that these guys came to town with. They changed the face of music overnight, and will forever be remembered. Only a soul few like "The Beatles" ever made that type of impact. Although "Our" generation is getting grey around the edges, all the love and compassion is still there, minus most of the drug enhancments. As I heard someone say recently, I now do ant-acid instead of acid. LOL! Again for the youngsters, don't be afraid to ask the O.G.'s what it was like then and now. Allot of us who were there want to share our stories before we fade into oblivion, and I am sure that is the same way for the band members themselves. For those that may be a little more cynical about things; lets just see where you are four decades from now. We all get old before our time (at least the lucky ones do) and we need to share our stories. Led Zeppelin is more then just a band. It is music that defined a generation, and I thank God that I was a part of it. How lucky could a person be? To be born in San Francisco in the Haight Ashbury at the height of the counter-culture. If anyone ever gets a chance to hear one of their first gigs at Fillmore West (it's out there somewhere on bootleg) in January/April 69, Plant had only been with the band a few weeks as he was called in to replace another singer while in England just before the band left for the USA. The show was a last minute replacement for another band that cancelled. And the rest is history. By mid 69 the first album was released; and the face of music forever changed. It was never planned that way, it just happened. That's what can happen when the love is in the air. PEACE!

I'm not a ZEP freak, but they are if not the top right there at the top 2 or 3 "Real" "Rock N Roll" Bands of all time.

The age comment not only isn't a put down or hardship or draw back, it's more of a HUGE benefit, and testimony to thier Stability, Greatness, Significance and Perfection.

On the other hand, it does also show your maturity and knowledge! :)

Pooh pooh to all the naysayers! Led Zeppelin IS the pioneer rock band. Without them paving the way for rock as we know it, rock as we know it would be so Wayne Newton! How many naysayers rock out to, say...Nelson? If you don't, then thank Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Bonham and John Paul Jones from the bottom of your hearts for providing music the foundation to make something worth listening to!

Pinetop Perkins' 80-year career still going

AP
Fri Nov 27, 2009 4:03am PST

AP - Noisy crowds in smoky bars don't bother 96-year-old bluesman Pinetop Perkins. It's all part of his job. Most nights, after he snuffs out his menthol cigarette, Perkins slides onto the piano bench in some club and … More »
