Jimmy Page & John Paul Jones: The 2007 Interview

Posted Fri Nov 30, 2007 2:46pm PST by Dave DiMartino in Led Zeppelin's Return Flight

On Friday, Nov. 16th, Y! Music was lucky enough to get an audience with Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones.

In excellent form, both very warm and friendly, the pair detailed the events leading up to the planned Dec. 10th reunion concert and offered their one-of-a-kind perspective on being lifelong members of this very phenomenal band.

We at Y! Music thank Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, and of course their label for making this very exclusive interview possible. We hope you're one of the lucky people who actually get to witness December's performance.

Enjoy!

While I love the whole band, and always have, from the very beginning,I miss John as he was my "teacher". Learned everything I know from watching him, being a self taught drummer.Very excited to be able to hear Jason as well...Get the Led out!

Last saw them 30 years ago. Plant stil has the voice as evidenced by his collabortion with Alyson Krause. Page still has it and showed it off with the Black Crowes. Give today's generation a taste of what a real rock-n-roll band sounds like and of course the experience of seeing them live!!

I saw Zeppelin in 77 for free on one of the 5 Chicago tour dates where Jimmy Page had just a little too much to drink and canceled the show after about 6 songs.... Plant's son passed later that year. I saw the boys again in a hockey rink just outside of Mannheim Germany in June of 1980 just 3 months before John Bonham died.
It was a privilege to see a band whose music remains timeless. I've seen the music scene change a lot through the years. Seen a lot of bands make it onto the music scene and then disappear into obscurity. Led Zeppelin's music is still as beautiful and haunting now as it was to me more then 30 years ago. Not a lot of Artists make music that can stand the true test of time....If your not a Zeppelin fan.....What are you waiting for???

saw them at the oakland coliseum in 1977.what a show!!!!!!from the very back at the very top row you could still feel the sound going thru you!i walked all thru that place and the sound was great every where.finally ended up at center field and the music just blasted thru your body.what a show!hope they tour but if not i will never forget that show.no album or cd can even come close to capturing the true power they put out at a live show.plant said best in an interview,"rock and roll and hammer of the gods".LED ZEPPELIN can and will never be matched!!!!!

I am so glad to see everyone screaming for Zep to come to the states. It just can't be ignored. They will be here. Let's not make a mockery out of it by charging exorberant ticket prices for the privlage. I'm sure that if it was up to them, they would do it for next to nothing. That is what is was about then, and now. The music, not the profit. If they come to San Francisco, the journey will be complete. This is were it started, and it's appropriate for it to end here as well. They will have come full-circle, and I'm sure that John is smiling from heaven. What a long strange trip it's been. PEACE to all on earth.

bearsmyboy, I was at those Day on the Green's #6 - #7, July 23rd & 24th, 1977 myself in Oakland, CA floating around, high on "shrooms". For those that may be looking for authentic souvenirs, go to Wolfgangs Vault dot com. This is all the stuff that Bill Grahm warehoused and is certified authentic all the way back to day one. Too bad that the DOTG's don't happen anymore, but it would be very cool to see these guys in the new ATT Stadium right in Downtown San Francisco. There is not a bad seat in the house. Much, much better then Oakland. You could have a latte` with your doobie! (Chronic) :) If anyone has any questions, I'm a go-to guy. Email me at diverdown2u at hotmail dot com. I might have some answers for you.
