Five Famous No Shows

Posted Wed Jul 25, 2007 2:55pm PDT by Rob O'Connor in List Of The Day
So you've read that bookies are taking Vegas odds on whether or not Amy Winehouse shows up for her next gig. It's always nice when the younger generation emulates the older folks. But Winehouse has a ways to go if she's going to trounce the legends of who failed to show before her.

Whitney Houston: She cancelled on the Reverend Moon and has cited "sudden illness" in the past for missed appearances. She's visited rehab on occasion and her marriage has been in the tabloids for years. And when she does show up, she sings. And some of us kinda then wish she didn't show up in the first place.

Sly Stone: Even when he showed up for gigs he'd often leave before stagetime, deciding that shopping in a faraway city was more urgent than the need to take his fans higher with the music they paid to see.

The Doors: Jim Morrison had trouble with authority. And he liked to drink - a lot. So even when he did make it to the show, he was often not in any shape to really do more than burp and curse at the audience. Which was still preferable to hearing the immortal words: We're going to let Ray sing a few.

George Jones: He earned the nickname "No Show" Jones. Considering his shows usually didn't last longer than an hour, it's seems like even when he did perform it was almost like not getting a show. At least if you saw him in a dinner theater maybe you got a decent meal out of it.

Guns N' Roses: Their new album, Chinese Democracy, is due out any decade now. No, seriously, it's coming. And just to whet your appetite, Axl Rose and a bunch of guys he's hired to be Guns N' Roses could be coming to a town near you. If they don't cancel first. But they might. That's half the fun. That cool sense of "not knowing."

Yeah I remember, in 1978 I was outside an arena in Maryland and was almost crushed to death in a crowd when a rumor spread that Aerosmith was once again not going to show up. The first concert had been cancelled months earlier when one of the band members was injured by a firecracker that was thrown up on stage. Does anyone remember that tour? I think maybe it was the heavy drug use and drinking that contributed more to the cancellation. When they did finally put on the show it was pretty good.

ITS ALL POOPY

Aretha Franklin is extremely unreliable. She cancels often, sometimes without giving reasons.

Amy Winehouse isn't even at the top and she's already comfortable enough to just skip town on an audience?! What's up with that? And why is she so skinny?

What really gets me is you have these famous no shows that could care less about their fans and have been lifted to super-stardom status but yet there are some really talented people out there still trying to make it into the business that would give their left arm to just be able to perform for the crowded masses.

And these "performers" are the people who influence our children. It is no wonder my mother told me to never marry a musician.

Thought these performers are bad.....You should of tried to book George Jones in his 20's. LOL Several times you had to walk him to the stage and hold him up while he performed. You soon learned to not serve him alcohol before he was performing in your establishment. LOL

I remember once, Shaun Cassidy ate too much candy and cake and had to leave a show before he sang "The Doo Ron Ron".

thats ashame when you have peole with god giving talent, that works hard to get were thaye are at, and should be bless that somebody wants to listen to there music, and goes and dont show up for there concert or what ever... they are letting thereselfs down and mostly ther fans who spend there hard earned money to go see ther flacky butts....

When you are on top you think it will last forever but show business is like treading water. As soon as you stop moving (showing up) you eventually drown (disapear) and there is no coming back. You only go around once if you are lucky and you have to respect the "muse" that brought you to the party. If you don't the "muse" disapears and eventually the fans find a new star to hitch up with. For every action there is a reaction. tc
