Five Famous No Shows

Posted Wed Jul 25, 2007 2:55pm PDT by Rob O'Connor in List Of The Day
So you've read that bookies are taking Vegas odds on whether or not Amy Winehouse shows up for her next gig. It's always nice when the younger generation emulates the older folks. But Winehouse has a ways to go if she's going to trounce the legends of who failed to show before her.

Whitney Houston: She cancelled on the Reverend Moon and has cited "sudden illness" in the past for missed appearances. She's visited rehab on occasion and her marriage has been in the tabloids for years. And when she does show up, she sings. And some of us kinda then wish she didn't show up in the first place.

Sly Stone: Even when he showed up for gigs he'd often leave before stagetime, deciding that shopping in a faraway city was more urgent than the need to take his fans higher with the music they paid to see.

The Doors: Jim Morrison had trouble with authority. And he liked to drink - a lot. So even when he did make it to the show, he was often not in any shape to really do more than burp and curse at the audience. Which was still preferable to hearing the immortal words: We're going to let Ray sing a few.

George Jones: He earned the nickname "No Show" Jones. Considering his shows usually didn't last longer than an hour, it's seems like even when he did perform it was almost like not getting a show. At least if you saw him in a dinner theater maybe you got a decent meal out of it.

Guns N' Roses: Their new album, Chinese Democracy, is due out any decade now. No, seriously, it's coming. And just to whet your appetite, Axl Rose and a bunch of guys he's hired to be Guns N' Roses could be coming to a town near you. If they don't cancel first. But they might. That's half the fun. That cool sense of "not knowing."

If I pay money for tickets I better hear some music!

It sure doesn't seem to ruin the performers. Who remembers when The Black Eyed Peas showed up late to a gig, and later on that evening, Fergie obviously wet herself? She denied it, of course, but either way it didn't seem to damage her in the least bit.

Must be a slow news day.

what i can't believe Rob O'Connor has enough neve to just say "when amy winehouse does show-up she sings. but some people wish she didn't come!" How you just come out and said that i think she a great voice and has some of the best songs out there now! but thats just what i think.

I don't think I'd like musicians as much if they weren't all crazy.

Another boring topic from these Yahoo yahoos! Do the authors of these stupid articles get paid to write them? Do they direct their articles towards the intellegence level of the average 5 year old? O'Conner should be paying Yahoo to get this kind of "soundbite" garbage published. He's just another entertainment world "wanna-be" who thinks he is saying something important, but whose writing is third-rate.

morrison was a drunk loser... not an american poet

GnR is not GnR without the original members! It is a crazy man with some freaks pretending to be GnR. Chinese Democracy will NEVER happen!

No mention of Hank Williams Jr?? Again, another drinking, slurring and forgetting the lyrics kind of an entertainer; He belongs in the top 10 as well!

The Cult are awesome at reuniting, booking sell out shows, then cancelling. Maybe Morrison realy is living in Ian Asterbury's groin afterall.

The legendary Marilyn Monroe was late on countless occasians to movie shoots sometimes causing the working day to be cancelled. Due to her tardiness, she gained a bad reputation among other stars. Monroe was fired and dropped from contracts because of this habitual habit. Monroe's tardiness did not just effect her job, she was also late for personal events including JFK's Birthday Bash where she is known for singing Happy Birthday Mr. President while under the influence of "something". Monroe fought abuse with perscription drugs for many years which may be to blame for her tardiness and possibly even her death.
