Five Famous No Shows

Posted Wed Jul 25, 2007 2:55pm PDT by Rob O'Connor in List Of The Day
So you've read that bookies are taking Vegas odds on whether or not Amy Winehouse shows up for her next gig. It's always nice when the younger generation emulates the older folks. But Winehouse has a ways to go if she's going to trounce the legends of who failed to show before her.

Whitney Houston: She cancelled on the Reverend Moon and has cited "sudden illness" in the past for missed appearances. She's visited rehab on occasion and her marriage has been in the tabloids for years. And when she does show up, she sings. And some of us kinda then wish she didn't show up in the first place.

Sly Stone: Even when he showed up for gigs he'd often leave before stagetime, deciding that shopping in a faraway city was more urgent than the need to take his fans higher with the music they paid to see.

The Doors: Jim Morrison had trouble with authority. And he liked to drink - a lot. So even when he did make it to the show, he was often not in any shape to really do more than burp and curse at the audience. Which was still preferable to hearing the immortal words: We're going to let Ray sing a few.

George Jones: He earned the nickname "No Show" Jones. Considering his shows usually didn't last longer than an hour, it's seems like even when he did perform it was almost like not getting a show. At least if you saw him in a dinner theater maybe you got a decent meal out of it.

Guns N' Roses: Their new album, Chinese Democracy, is due out any decade now. No, seriously, it's coming. And just to whet your appetite, Axl Rose and a bunch of guys he's hired to be Guns N' Roses could be coming to a town near you. If they don't cancel first. But they might. That's half the fun. That cool sense of "not knowing."

G and R talented yes, cocky jerks definetly so. that is why they are not around anymore or at least on top. Drugs destroy!............
Morrison follows in the same trap, talented but not wise with his decisions. too bad. he could still be alive today.

Christina Aguliera canceled the one and only time i ever wanted to see her. she used the excuse of laryngitis (i think thats how u spell it). But she sang the next night somewhere else. She ruined my birthday party. We had to go out for ice cream instead. :-/

I dont trust her after that so i wont go to her shows EVER!!!

lol - I once paid over $100 each to see Chuck Berry, and got, instead, a GREAT concert by Peter Noone, who was the opening act. Chuck was so drunk/doped (don't know which, or if both) he chickenwalked across the stage, hunkered down in a corner and tried to make Maybelline a country song! The old Carlton Celebrity Room in Bloomington, MN had the grace to both refund our tickets and give us a comp to something else, but man, what a waste...Berry that is. I LOVED Peter Noone - talk about grace under pressure. He was actually composing at the piano for us! He was supposed to play 15 minutes, and played most of the entire show...and of course, we all got into the act, singing Henry the Eighth with him!

It takes grace of the debut to get to the limelight and it also takes the grace of the limelight to mess up if one wishes do so. Great minds have a great assignments to cover from day to day. Maybe it's high time we learn to decide point blank instead of letting the people that brough us out down when they are supposed to be worshiped. Because they are God sent if they just ask you to sing for them for a day which is most likely not possible. I am still praying for the day i will be singing at the madison square, not the day i will disappoint my fans!!! jabalwallace

I think artist who fight so hard to make it to the point of fame should be a little more grateful to their audience.....and i love amy winehouse but she should really go to REHAP...considering her latest antics..waste of talent if she doesn't shape up

Also, none of those bands are EMO, so how did that person get EMO from the groups listed above. Also Pink floyd, yeah they smoked, yeah they drank, and drugs, but I'm pretty sure they didn't miss shows because of that, they probaly missed some because Syd Barret had mental illness

I saw David Lee Roth (after Van Halen) and he showed, but only sang 1/2 a song and cussed at us and left. He was so drunk, Luckly I got to see Cinderella and Extreme the same day.
