Five Famous No Shows

Posted Wed Jul 25, 2007 2:55pm PDT by Rob O'Connor in List Of The Day
So you've read that bookies are taking Vegas odds on whether or not Amy Winehouse shows up for her next gig. It's always nice when the younger generation emulates the older folks. But Winehouse has a ways to go if she's going to trounce the legends of who failed to show before her.

Whitney Houston: She cancelled on the Reverend Moon and has cited "sudden illness" in the past for missed appearances. She's visited rehab on occasion and her marriage has been in the tabloids for years. And when she does show up, she sings. And some of us kinda then wish she didn't show up in the first place.

Sly Stone: Even when he showed up for gigs he'd often leave before stagetime, deciding that shopping in a faraway city was more urgent than the need to take his fans higher with the music they paid to see.

The Doors: Jim Morrison had trouble with authority. And he liked to drink - a lot. So even when he did make it to the show, he was often not in any shape to really do more than burp and curse at the audience. Which was still preferable to hearing the immortal words: We're going to let Ray sing a few.

George Jones: He earned the nickname "No Show" Jones. Considering his shows usually didn't last longer than an hour, it's seems like even when he did perform it was almost like not getting a show. At least if you saw him in a dinner theater maybe you got a decent meal out of it.

Guns N' Roses: Their new album, Chinese Democracy, is due out any decade now. No, seriously, it's coming. And just to whet your appetite, Axl Rose and a bunch of guys he's hired to be Guns N' Roses could be coming to a town near you. If they don't cancel first. But they might. That's half the fun. That cool sense of "not knowing."

First of all, there would be NO Amy Winehouse without WHITNEY HOUSTON. Second of all, we all know why she stopped showing up but she aint the first superstar to fall into that route. Fortunately for all of us and MUSIC itself, she's on her way back and healthy. We should be giving her, and everyone else who had an addiction, props for getting help and better.

Whitney Houston use to rock. She has always been beauty to look at and an amazing voice. My opinion dosen't count for much but I do think it was Bobbys' fault for her fall. Haven't had the opportunity to ever hear here in concert or see her in person, would have loved to. I would lvoe to see her come back as strong as she was, but that won't happen.

Ricky Nelson was good foe showing up late or not at all

WHO CARES?

I like it when performers take drugs. It makes for some great albums.

Seriously, these super clean goobers make nothing but the same old processed cheese time and time again. Want an example? Country music in recent years. It was great back when Hank was getting hammered, Charlie Daniels was burning the bud and Johnny Cash was whacked out on pills. Now what do we have? Good clean sober, "I'm an angry Amurricun". BORING!

MORRISION SUCKED THEN AND IF HE WAS STILL ALIVE HE WOULD SUCK NOW. IF IT HAD NOT BEEN FOR THE BAND, NO ONE WOULD HAVE EVER HEARD OF MORRISON

How old are you Rosemary, 12? First, the story was about no-shows and how they stiffed their fans by performing badly, not about how talented they were.

Besides that, Morrison has been portrayed as some incredible poet with a tortured soul. He wasn't a poet, he couldn't sing and he was a waste of skin. Go ahead, emulate him.....shows to your character.

I'm not interested in seeing any of these people perform, so I don't have to worry about being disappointed.

STEVEN TYLER FROM AEROSMITH WAS A HEROIN ADDICT FOR YEARS IN THE 70'S

i love jim

1st time no show-verbal reprimand
2nd time no show- written reprimand
3rd time no show- dismissal
That's how it works at my workplace. Hard to get drunk when you don't get paid.

The defunct rock band Creed lost millions of fans because of Scott Stapp's inability to actually perform after he drank a few. I remember in the late 90's I was set to see them 3 different times in Sacramento, CA and every time it was an illness in the band bull$hit.
