Thriving Ivory Thrive Alive!

Posted Sun Jan 25, 2009 3:42pm PST by Martin Dio in Maximum Performance

San Francisco Bay area quintet Thriving Ivory have been making significant noise in various areas of the country since the demo of their "Angels Of The Moon" was picked up by an area radio station early in their career and given a royal reception by local listeners.

Signed to Wind-up Records, the band--consisting of Scott Jason (piano & keys), Clayton Stroope (vocals), Drew Cribley (guitars), Bret Cohune (bass), and Paul Niedermier (drums)--has continuned to garner favor in several West Coast states.

Perhaps most notably, the band's been drawing raves in the Salt Lake City area, where local radio picked up on the "Angel Of The Moon" single and sales of the band's Wind-up debut have topped local charts.

Check out several tracks here from the band's recent live performance at Salt Lake City's Murray Theater, which drew over a thousand fans for their first appearance ever in the area. Do they rock? It would appear they do!

I just don't know about this guys voice. I know it's very different sounding...but I just don't know if I like it or no. um....

4. Mike -
This is in reponse to Amy's comment about Thriving Ivory....I was a little skeptical myself at first about his voice...but then I bought the album and listened to the words...and the words and his voice MAKE that band.

They have since been one of my favorite bands and there's not a day that goes by that I don't listen to them. I can have their CD on repeat and it never gets old. It gets better. You find yourself loving it more than you thought you would....find yourself quoting the songs to your friends....it's crazy. I love them. I'm going to see them for the first time live in March and I am ECSTATIC about it! I can't wait. It's going to be amazing...from the way these videos sound...it will be amazing.

So, give them a chance Amy....if you like great lyrics and music that speaks those lyrics as well....then this band is for you. Definitely. I'm done now. haha

DId anyone see them on Jimmy Kimmel the other night....FANTASTIC. I was skeptical at first, but then was blown away. They sound amazing live. Going to the Chicago show in February. Cannot wait!

These guys were really amazing when I saw them live (it was in Salt Lake). The music was great. Even more, the guys were really nice. They all stayed after to talk and sign autographs, and seemed genuinely excited to be interacting with fans.

Wow! When I clicked on this band I really wasn't expecting them to sound THIS good and especially when they are live!!! There have been several bands playing live sets on yahoo that pale in comparison with sheer musical ability (ie a voice that stays in tune constantly and seamless volume controls on instruments) I will definitely be watching this band and getting this CD. Not the most intricate guitarists around but I believe that the ability to make everything mesh and sound as good as it does together takes a great amount of talent too.

Hey guys!
On "Angels on the Moon" I love how Drew started out and it was your sold out show! I love it when Clayton you ask for the audience to sing with you! The lighting was perfect also. Clayton you are so natural on stage dear you amaze me every time!! Did you see everyone singing along with the guys in the audience? WOW..
Twilight: Great drumming Paul. Clayton once again you were born for that stage! I loved it, it's always great to see you live!
Hey Lady: Scott loved seeing you start playing on the keys! Did I see you smile? Clayton your voice is amazing on this one. It changes IN A GOOD WAY! You even had the guys singing and dancing in the front row! I loved how you were on one knee singing to the audience, though I think in time you'll need to be careful or they'll grab you and pull you down, only cause they loves ya!
ALL IN ALL...FREAKING AWESOME!..CYN!

Shelly I pray everything will work out for your Dad.

I listen in awe because these men are awesome. I saw them on the Greg Kimmel show. I plan on seeing them in Little Rock. Their music is calming, healing, invirorating. What a wonderful paradox. Dianne in Arkansas

My husband and I love Thriving Ivory, as does my 13 yr old. They will be playing local here in the next month and we would love to see them. Of course my daughter wants to go too. My question is: Are the concerts appropriate for a 13 year old? What kind crowd do they attract?

17. sami -
To Robinlee92273....
These guys are amazing. They attract the most loving kind of people. I have seen them live and all I can say is that your 13 year old would not see anything that would be bad on stage. They are so down to earth and sweet. No one is perfect, but I think these guys consider that they have young Fans. I do not know them personally but just knowing they had a sold out show in Utah is a dead give away! You will love them.GO GO GO is all I can say,Sami!

18. Stephanie -
Absolutly amazing- each one of them!!! Saw them in Orlando last night and will never forget it! Incredible!
