Documenting The Beatles' 'Let It Be'

Posted Wed Sep 9, 2009 1:31am PDT by Martin Dio in Maximum Performance

If you haven't figured it out yet, you're in the middle of Beatles Week.

Or, more specifically, Beatles Year. Because 2009 is looking to be one of the biggest in the legendary rock band's history.

By now you've heard of the Beatles' Rock Band venture; it's a timely videogame venture that will likely introduce an entire new generation of young game players and budding music fans to the music of the Beatles, and it's big, big news.

But even bigger news--any way you look at it--is this week's reissue of the complete Beatles catalog in newly remastered versions. Consumers can now purchase all of the Beatles' albums either separately or in boxed set form; the boxed set format offers consumers either stereo or mono versions of their work and--especially in the latter case--has audiophiles the world over drooling.

In sequence of their original release, the classic albums include:  Please Please Me, With The Beatles, A Hard Day's Night, Beatles For Sale, Help!, Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Magical Mystery Tour, The Beatles (The White Album), Yellow Submarine, Abbey Road, Let It Be and Past Masters.

Another highlight of the new reissues is the inclusion of 13 brief "mini-documentary" videoclips added to each reissue but Past Masters. The clips feature film footage, audio interviews and recollections by various group members, producer extraordinaire George Martin and much more.

Join us now as Maximum Performance features the mini-documentary that viewers will see when the purchase the Beatles' classic Let It Be album. And remember there's much more where that came from.

Am almost in tears as I feel as though it's yesterday, and yet 40 some odd years ago these guys hooked me up, it truely has been a "Magical Mystery Tour." This is totally iconic, I would love to see Paul, and Ringo do a piece together if for nothing else, but in memory and respect for John, and George. Millions will be made this week and I am one who will be in line to buy this box set. My hat's off to all the families, friends, and affiliated personnel, and "The Beatles" for a teen, and adult life filled with the greatest music "of" the world. Mozzart, Bach, and Beethoven would be proud of these boys we know as the BEATLES. Scott

I'm only 22, but "The Beatles" and their music have given me so much comfort and hope when I listen to their songs through any time in my life. Beautiful words, beautiful music, beautiful ideas from four beautiful people. Their music will be as popular 40 years from now I'm quite sure.

There is no dout about it. The Beatles opened the ROCK N ROLL BAND DOOR. Has surpassed recorders sales then anyone group or person in music. I understand that it's said they have sold at least 500,000,000. Half a billion, NOW THAT'S WHAT YOU CALL HISTORY. Fact don't lie but all you have to do is listen them if you can't take my word.

These guys have always rocked! What a phenomenon they brought to the world of music entertainment. The loss of John and George is very sad but we still have Paul and Ringo. It would have been great to see all of them back together again in these later years for a comeback reunion and how their music would have evolved to this point. Nonetherless, we will have all the wonderful music they produced those many years ago when they were such a world wide sensation! LOVE THE BEATLES FOREVER!

To jamie: If you count all the albums cd's&vinyl and tapes the Beatles have sold close to 2 billion records world wide.

Oh me, all the beauty they left in a dark world, which I'm afraid is getting darker all the time. Who can forget "Imagine", "Let it be", "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band", and all the others, so many I could never name them all. It was a tragedy to lose John and George, but wherever in this big world Paul and Ringo are, I want to thank them with all my heart for the joy and fun they brought to every age group, and are still bringing, today and always.

JuanA, according to RIAA the Beatles have sold 211million albums in the US, 7.6million in the UK, 7.2 in Germany, 12.5 in Canada and just a few million copies in other countries, and those are the countries with the highest purchasing power for music source: Wikipedia. I do not know if you do mathematics, but to be fair that is another bunch of inflated sales figures like those of Elvis. For your information, the Beatles has hardly sell over 500million albums both vinyl and all what not. Stop contributing to the inflation of sales for your favorite artists.

It's been a long time. Hearing the Fab 4 with even just a bit of change is great. And most of the cuts I've heard today have been awesome. I'm willing to bet that while Boomers are going crazy today, 09/09/09, there'll be many post whatever, who'll be going crazy as well. Now if we could just turn back the clock a few years. And yes, I bought the stereo set, the mono comes next!!!! Call me CRAZY!!!!

The Beatles have endured generation after generation with their music of insight and hope. The music and lyrics of Lennon and McCartney as composers can never ever be matched. Tell me a band or even a single individual today that can put pen to paper and write so beautiful, revealing and insightful songs like them? I discovered the Beatles music while listening to the "White Album" at my cousins house some 39 years ago. I'm 50 years old now but still can remember the song "Revolution" off the album like it was yesterday..no pun intended. Thank you John, Paul, George and Ringo for being the best Rock and Roll Band in the history of music even though you weren't together for so long your in our hearts forever.

love you 4/ever john

sound really good, but will the rest of the albums be released as well, such as "beatles, yesterday and today", "beatles second album", "the beatles again, hey jude" just to name a few. those album covers were also great, first version for yesterday and today was rather unique of the time. guess we will have to see what happens.

what would also be nice is the re-release of the let it be documentary. as for me im still wishing. this like the remastered music, dose bring memories, i saw this in the theater, (yes im that young lol)

thanks for taking time to read my post.

Hey Kwentibite, we Beatle fans don't need your RIAA statistics or your claim of inflated sales figures! Elvis and the Fab Four will be forever on top and in the league of Mozart, Beethoven, etc. Beatles forever!

Pinetop Perkins' 80-year career still going

AP
Fri Nov 27, 2009 4:03am PST

AP - Noisy crowds in smoky bars don't bother 96-year-old bluesman Pinetop Perkins. It's all part of his job. Most nights, after he snuffs out his menthol cigarette, Perkins slides onto the piano bench in some club and … More »
