Switchfoot: Live From The Eye Of The Hurricane

Posted Fri Oct 30, 2009 10:24pm PDT by Martin Dio in Maximum Performance

On a brand new label and with what might be the best album of their career under their belts, Switchfoot have returned in a very big way.

Now preparing for the release of Hello Hurricane, the seventh full-length Switchfoot album due out Nov. 10th, the band will launch its tour Nov. 8th in San Diego, make a stopover at the Jimmy Kimmel Show on Nov. 12th, then cross the country in the month to come.

The band-- Jon Foreman (vocals/guitar), Tim Foreman (bass), Chad Butler (drums), Jerome Fontamillas (keys/guitar) and Drew Shirley (guitar)--is truly going all-out with Hello Hurricane: Those who pre-order from the band's website can purchase a multitude of configurations, from regular to deluxe: a standard CD, a deluxe CD/DVD set, vinyl with CD, digital edition, and a "collector's edition" featuring the CD, DVD, an additional CD of outtakes, poster and hardcover book.

In hand with the release of the new album, the band is launching a new website--theworldyouwant.com--with a stated goal of spotlighting "goodness, beauty and truth in everyday life." What's that all about? According to an explanatory note on the band's own website: "In Switchfoot, we're continually looking for ways to point the spotlight on the incredible people that we look up to, the folks that are making this world a better place. TheWorldYouWant is a place to highlight these visionaries and get involved--a user run site where all of us can dream up the change we want to see and take action."

As for Hello Hurricane and the songs within: Check out these live performances of four songs from the album--"Mess Of Me," "Bullet Soul," "The Sound" and "Hello Hurricane"--to get a taste of what's to come.  Any way you look at it, these guys are getting better by the minute.

I've been a Switchfoot fan for about 10 years. It's great to see them continue to grow musically and lyrically and pick up new fans along the way. Based on those 4 songs, this new album sounds great!

you can feel the emotion in these new songs. especially hello hurricane. you can tell it's the emotional emphasis of the album. sure it's lighthearted and upbeat, but the message it conveys is something we can all use during troubled times. and this is something that you can tell all of the guys at switchfoot share. they all feel the adversity that has taken place before hand. i don't really know what these were but you can tell this is something they firmly believe in and have put their heart and soul into.
Keep on doing what you were meant to do Switchfoot!

Pinetop Perkins' 80-year career still going

AP

AP - Noisy crowds in smoky bars don't bother 96-year-old bluesman Pinetop Perkins. It's all part of his job. Most nights, after he snuffs out his menthol cigarette, Perkins slides onto the piano bench in some club and … More »
