Did 'Dancing With The Stars' Insult Lil' Kim?

Posted Tue May 5, 2009 2:29pm PDT by Justin Mathews in Musictoob

Did Bruno go too far when he called Lil' Kim a "tramp?"

Lil' Kim, rapper and Dancing With The Stars contestant, is no stranger to criticism.

But many think judge Bruno Tonioli may have crossed the line Monday night from "tough judge" to just plain "jerk." If you missed it, the comment came after Kim and partner Derek Hough finished an elegant waltz.

Bruno, after saying he thought the other judges' favorable scores were due to "medication," ripped into Kim.

"You try to be a lady, but you're more comfortable being a tramp," said Bruno.

Many across the country were stunned--including Family Law attorney and marital expert Vikki Ziegler. What did the women's advocate and founder of DivorceDating.com have to say for Bruno?

"It was inappropriate and uncalled-for," said Vikki.

"I think he should issue a public apology. I think it sends a really poor message to women. [Lil' Kim is] in a competition, and her outfits, her behavior, are all 'it's a show!' I mean, isn't that what it's about?"

Ziegler explained to Musictoob what Bruno really meant.

"Calling her a 'tramp,' or 'looking like a tramp,' says to...young women, who want to be stars, want to be rappers, that somehow her behavior in a dancing competition evidences a lack of morals. That's what he was trying to say, and I think it was disrespectful and inappropriate."

The second dance of the night for Derek and Lil' Kim was the salsa; a dance that saw the return of what Kim called the "Bionic Booty."

But, perhaps anxious to begin damage control, Bruno gave a standing ovation to the pair as soon as they finished the sizzling Latin number--with not one mention of "unladylike" behavior.

The couple scored three nines, for a total of 27, on the salsa, making Kim one of the longest-running musicians on the show--easily beating out Belinda Carlisle and Chuck Wicks.

Musictoob exclusive: See Dancing judge Carrie Ann Inaba try to rap

Musictoob has exclusive, behind-the-scenes video of Dancing With The Stars judge Carrie Ann Inaba showing off her rap skills.

In the video, a promotional clip for Dr. Scholl's For Her, Carrie Ann Inaba introduces her on-set dance partner, then after a "blip" she raps: "Here she is/She's gonna give you some good/dance/shoe/tips!" and throws up a "sign."

To be fair, Carrie Ann says she's "obviously not a rapper." Luckily Lil' Kim wasn't there to turn the tables on Inaba and critique her hip-hop skills.

KIM WAS THE ONLY REASON A LOT OF PEOPLE WERE WATCHING THE SHOW. BRUNO SHOULD CLEAR THE STATEMENT UP AND TELL EVERYONE WHAT HE MEANT. LIL' KIM DOESN'T REPRESENT ALL WOMEN BECAUSE I AM A SECURE BLACK WOMEN AND JUST BECAUSE HE CALLED HER A TRAMP DON'T MAKE ME ONE I REP ME AND ONLY ME!!!!!!!! UBU4LIFE!!! PS...OPRAH DID STATE AN OPINION GO TO HER WEBSITE!!!

As usual people took it totally out of context. He was just saying she is better suited for the faster dances because that is what she is comfortable with. She didn't seemed offended as a matter of fact she laughed after he said it. He also said he did not mean it the way people where reacting.

Sorry guys Hate to disagree, But just like you say the clothes, the hair ,the makeup, is for show, so is her rap persona, you don't know what she is as a real person day to day. Stop it! The ones hatin need to go outside in the "real world", and get out of the@#$*@! up rag mags, and see people as they really are PEOPLE!! Unless she was a tramp around your area, and you saw it,Shut-up.

I am not agree with the decision of the judges. LIL KIM was amazing , she supposed to be in the final , instead of the gail who stood before his wife to dance . What is the meaning of his gest, and then you have a partenaire. According to me it has no significance in the rumba. He supposed to be eliminated not her. She does not deserve that

166. What? -
Is this the Ty from that "Home Edition" show? Sorry as I said earlier, I no longer watch the show since Jerry Springer.

He is judging her dancing and she dances like a tramp! A little bit of class would go a long way.

168. Peter -
SHe is a tramp, have you not listned to her music or watched her videos?

169. GaryD -
How hilarious for anyone to suddenly get all 'principled' and 'precious' abouit Lil Kimmeeee. You are kidding , right?
Her mouth would embarrass a veteran merchant marine.
I know people who have traveled with her in the 'teamster'
vans.I ll bet the teamsters learned some new words!
This isnt a black womens rights issue , dont be stupid

Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill! LOL All Bruno said was she more comfortable acting the tramp than the lady. No one got bent out of shape when they discussed the "bionic booty". Everyone thought that that was a huge compliment! LOL She is more confortable doing the sexy, lation dances than the prim-and-proper waltzes. So what?

Bruno needs to be fined or replaced if he can not respect the women on the show. It is not the first time he has said something hurtful. Lil Kim deserves the same respect as the other dancers on the show. She is very talented and showed that she can hang. She should not have been sent home last night. I know I want be watching this show anymore.

lil kim and derck hough should stay and send home ty. i hope next time lil kim and derck will dance again.

Bruno always gets excited when he talks, he DID NOT mean that Lil Kim was a tramp, he meant that she is a much better dancer when she can be a little more trampy, sexy, like in the latin dances. Don't put more into it than needs to be people. One slip gets every advocacy group up in arms. Simmer down, he made a mistake and apoligized for it to Lil Kim. And Lil Kim got booted off the show because the PEOPLE voted, not the judges. Get over it. Have you ever watched some of the music videos, it is rappers and hip hop artist, no matter what color and the women who wear the skimpy, skanky outfits that give women a bad name.

174. What? -
Those who had watched the season because of Kim was looking to see her screw up...not support her, that is obvious. Let just stop talking about the subject the show is over. Very obsessive Americans. =/

Born Black in this white man's world, anything they say about black's is ok in there eyes

Well, I'm going to have to agree w/ sissy. Even though Bruno once again shows his ass(which I think he enjoys!!!)by saying stupid stuff, Li'l Kim's a big girl and can take it...She's been called MUCH worse. Put on the big girl panties and keep it moving and let's see if she'll make it to the end...maybe she'll win and get the last laugh!

Bruno, you are the weakest link good bye!

178. Chicklet -
She - was - a - Negress!

He did apologize to her right after and said I did not mean it the way it sounded. I think the constant remarks about her rump shaking did not help either...but LiL Kim does not present herself like a lady.(check out her music) It was not racist at all the sexual stuff on the show rolling on the floor has been accepted by all the judges except the older guy whose name escapes me. Sorry she is off the show she and Melissa are the best dancers in my opinion.

I don't think that Bruno meant what he said as a TRAMP but he was saying she is a raunchy dancer - nothing wrong with that. I think in all honesty that Bruno likes Lil Kim and certainly did not mean what some interpreted from that...... she did NOT deserve to go home - she has been the second best dancer there - Gilles being the top dancer..... Ty should have gone home people were voting on him not on his dance abilities. Then it should have been Melissa leaving with Gilles and Lil Kim in the finals....... But good year this year so far....
