Kelis Says Nas Has Cut Her Off Without A Penny

Posted Mon Jun 15, 2009 12:58pm PDT by Andy Pemberton in Musictoob

Kelis says that estranged husband Nas has cut her off without a penny--just as she is expecting their child this month.

According to legal papers, rap star Nas is not paying any prenatal expenses and Kelis is flat broke. "I have run out of money," she said.

Kelis is asking a judge to order Nas to pay spousal support, child support, all pregnancy-related expenses, and one half of all medical expenses after the child is born. She also wants $3,500 for the baby nurse after the child's birth, and $20,000 for strollers, cribs, and other baby supplies.

Kelis says she is entitled to maintain the lifestyle she became accustomed to during their marriage. That was a lifestyle that involved owning expensive jewelery, like a diamond bracelet worth $190,000, a 9-carat, cushion-cut solitaire diamond engagement ring, and numerous watches "such as Cartier, Rolex, Frank Muller, and Chopard." The couple also owns five homes.

Nas has not yet responded.

Well i thought she had money too. What happened to the lifestyle she lived before she met Nas? She needs to get her behind in the studio!! Seems to me she got to comfortable with HIS lifestyle.

I don't understand the root cause of kelis/nas break-up, could it be their conflicting lifestyles or is it the western cultural absurdities that is indifferent about how many spouses one can marry in a lifetime. Sadly, i'm both their fan, and was thinking they would recognize my affection for them and make any of their child my God-Child. Unfortunately, my dreams are wasted. I pray none of them get involved in worse state. Gay realationship or should i say the American Dream!
Tah Dah.

WoW..i was a fan of Kelis, now i agree and i am hopeful that Nas will pay for his son's care..BUT HOW STUPID IS KELIS YOU WERE A VIABLE ARTIST BEFORE YOU MET NAS..I LAUGH AT ALL THESE FOOLS..IF YOU SAVE YOUR MONEY WHILE YOU ARE ON TOP SO WHEN SOMETHING LIKE THIS HAPPENS YOU ARE PREPARED..YOU DON'T NEED ALL THE WATCHES AND THE MANY SPA TREATMENTS ETC...SAVE YOUR MONEY AND PUT THE CRISTAL,GUCCI,BENZ, DOWN.when you have a bunch of two million dllar homes you still have to pay the taxes, and landscaping to keep them up..also you have to pay for those personal chef's..can we hear the cash register kaching kaching the tab is running....

It would be easy for me to say Kelis "Girl, use what you got to get what you need and don't sweat your soon to be EX husand for support", but only Kelis and NAS know what the real situation is. Although things in the marriage may not be going well, there is still a child involved. NAS needs to remember his own father in his life and realize the importance of not only financial support but the father figure and male role model he needs to be. Remeber we are in the informaiton age and this poor child will be able to read this blog one day. NAS, I hope you have a good explanation when your child starts hitting you with hard and serious questions on the subject. When all else failed I turn to Old School..."It's Cheaper to Keep Her"(Buddy Guy)!! Ditch the divorce. Kelis, be a strong woman and forgive your husband. NAS, beg your wife for forgiveness and remember "A Woman's Got to Have It"(Bobby Womack).

They invested many years in that relationship and it resulted in a child under the spiritual vow and legal bind of marriage. While the marriage may be over, he is still the father to a human being and is responsible by law,and hopefully by virtue and ethics to step up to the plate and provide fairly for his offspring. Until a reasonable amount of time his wife/ex-wife should at least be allowed a recouperation/adjustment period after birth so she can care for the infant, sort herself out and get on her feet financially. So yes it is time for her to pound the pavement and use her celebrity to push through applications and get people to take her calls and meetings. But by the same token she is a new mother and the needs of the infant comes first, to all adults involved in this scenario including her husband. The thing that could be worrisome is that in divorces, people always take sides, and loyalty usually goes to the highest bidder. Being that he is the one who currently has all the money, I hope she's not enduring what is typically known as the Divorce Blackball, as it's going to make it nearly impossible (for the short term at least) to generate any interest in helping her, considering she and her husband work in the same industry and share the same colleaugues, she might have to explore other avenues, I don't know, she was very popular worldwide for her quirky music and fashion sense, so maybe she could try fashion or writing columns for the foreign press, or in the US trying to become a tv personality or reality show contestant, who knows? In any event if they're not going to reconcile, she needs to lay low, concentrate on her newborn, start rummaging through her Blackberry address book for connections, divorce as fairly and discreetly as possible and move on.

It is crazy that most people are talking about black man this and that when the fact is no one really knows what is going on in thier world and we should not be quick to sling mud.
The only thing that is sad in this case and any other like this is there is a child in the middle and I hope for both thier sakes they do the right thing and take care of the child......He needs to do her part and she is a good artist so I am sure she can make her own money and maybe this time she would spend it a lot better.......Even Will Smith went broke but he learned from that. Have a good week all.

Wow so many break ups when someone is expecting one of gods children. Why can't we all just get along and work things out for the children. And I feel Nas should be a man and take care of his Responsibilities Financially. It should made how much who makes, Just take care of your kid or be prepared to pay a lum sum in child support. Enough Said. There are laws against Dead Beat Dads.Holla!

Well Famous or not, its called alimony. So Nas is going to have to pay TONS of money for her and her lifestyle. Period.

i find this article so incredibly racist and demeaning to Kelis. detailing her possessions and their price tag is such an obvious ploy to paint this woman as financially irresponsible. when the donald left ivana you can bet she had a hell of a lot more that that 9carat diamonds or those cartier watches. what need is there to place price tags on this woman's jewelery, like it's alreday on auction. have some respect. i personally heard nothing of ivana's jewels or jennifer aniston's, or linda hamilton's or any of the other white women who have divorced uber rich men. just because her bling isn't small and dainty and "lady like", it is no less personal. and yes, women do take jewelery very personally. what next? we go through her underwear drawer and count how much she paid at la perla. this feels like one of those: 'see, you give a n*** cash and they gone lost their minds'. and now this woman is dubbed as stupid. i personally know very few people who don't live beyond their means. kelis was not a mega beyonce type star. she had some, but not gazillions. i admire the fact that she is not too proud to say, listen, i'm broke. it can happen to me too the same way it happens to all those people who are now pointing fingers. i know you've heard it but most of this planet lives on less than a dollar a day. next time you find yourself broke, remember you are just as dumb as kelis because if you can sit on a computer and make yourself heard you certainly have more money than most of the world and when you're broke they're looking at you thinking ' you dumb idiot, you should have saved when you had so much money'. as for Nas. i hope this story is as out of context as most things in the media, because if it isn't, brother needs to watch 'crash' and see the scene between terrence howard and ludacris - where he says 'you embarass me'. please, please don't be a stereotype. it's emarrasssing to the rest of us. another black man abandoning his kid! makes me think he should be thrown out of our race. really. any man should be proud to have fathered another 'black diamond or pearl' - yeah Nas we do rememeber when you fooled us into thinking you were real.
