Kelis Says Nas Has Cut Her Off Without A Penny

Posted Mon Jun 15, 2009 12:58pm PDT by Andy Pemberton in Musictoob

Kelis says that estranged husband Nas has cut her off without a penny--just as she is expecting their child this month.

According to legal papers, rap star Nas is not paying any prenatal expenses and Kelis is flat broke. "I have run out of money," she said.

Kelis is asking a judge to order Nas to pay spousal support, child support, all pregnancy-related expenses, and one half of all medical expenses after the child is born. She also wants $3,500 for the baby nurse after the child's birth, and $20,000 for strollers, cribs, and other baby supplies.

Kelis says she is entitled to maintain the lifestyle she became accustomed to during their marriage. That was a lifestyle that involved owning expensive jewelery, like a diamond bracelet worth $190,000, a 9-carat, cushion-cut solitaire diamond engagement ring, and numerous watches "such as Cartier, Rolex, Frank Muller, and Chopard." The couple also owns five homes.

Nas has not yet responded.

I understand that she is pregnant and that is is child, but if he didn't take care of the first child he had, he's not going to do right by her. Women need to realize one thing when men don't take care of the first child, they are not going to take care of the second one. I wish her the best of luck with this one.

Welcome to the real life. Most people who break up end up broke. You have to depend on yourself and not others, at least that's what I've had to do in my own life. Be strong and get back into making money again.

I feel that Naz should pay for his child, but to keep up a grown person's lifestyle .... no, she need to get her own money, now she is entitled to a bit of alimony, but if you spitefully try to put him down and take more than half of his money, how is he going to be able to help her or the baby financially if he can't support himself cause she took all his money? You take his money, and that leaves him too broke to make more money to support her. Studio sessions, tours, promoting, and even production of an album cost he dosen't just sing and get the money, he gotta pay his people to put him out there. She didn't think of that did she?

Before I go remember it will take along time to go to court, so think quickly and go back to work. By the way you sing beautifully.

Nas should definitely pay for his son, but screw Kelis with wanting spousal support! What the eff?! She knows she doesn't have enough talent to compete with the newcomers, and she's just scared of having to get back to hard work. I hope she gets NOTHING.

She did what most women do let her man have complete control of everything by letting her guards.

I dont even know what to say......for her to sit there and ask for all kinds of support she is crazy.....i think the only thing he should pay for is child support....if the baby need isurance well than half of that.....all that other stuff she had it going on before they met.....so what happened to her money.......i know she was saving hers and spending his......When these celeb stars break up the pay enormous amount of money......It's like ahe is depending on him....instead of being the independent woman she was before they got involved.....

I think they should share the expenses of their baby. As far as paying her spousal support yeah right get over it! Whats fair is fair she should stand up and be a woman like so many other woman have to do when they are left alone with kids. She should make her self a strong example of what good woman have to do in hard times. I think that she should stand up for herself but at the same time be realistic. If they have so much property together and im pretty sure its worth a nice piece of change she should put a lien against them and sell her jewelry and live like the rest of us do on a fixed income! If she cant afford the lifestyle she is acustom to then that means she is not fit for that lifestyle and should find another one. My advice GET OVER IT!

She's entitled to live comfortably. Nobody NEEDS diamonds to raise a child.

i think that she should give the kid to nas so he can take care of it lol..

ummm.... maybe i missed something... how in the hell are you broke with 5 houses. If your having a baby and you have no money but you own property, correct me if im wrong (I've never owned 5 houses at once but I've play ahell of lot of monopoly) but selling one of those estates will put some ends in your pocket if worst comes to worst, which it seems as though it has and you can still have 3 others to choose from to live in if you dont want to leave in the same one as him. SO what is the issue again?

I was also a fan of Kelis, and purchased her CD back in 2000..although I didnt like every song there were like 4 cuts on that album that set her apart. I'm kinda split on the issue of support. Most divorced mates of rich famous celebrities are sooo greedy, example, Lionel Richies ex that claimed she needed something like $20,000 a MONTH to keep up with her lipo suction shopping lifestye..no talent and no small children of his to car for! But Kelis had her moment and unlike some R&B singers she HAS talent and can sing..really sing w/o the help of studio props. It's kinda dishearting, another person of color not managing their money wisely..if she invested for the future, which even for celebrities is uncertain, she wouldn't be "penniless" and I put that in quotes cuz I'm sure she has money but her money dwindling and if her estranged ex Nas isn't ordered to shell out the $$ she won't be able to upkeep her "lifestyle". And for goodness sake she's pregnant with HIS child..how ghetto is he not to at least give her something (if her claims are true). I watch enough divorce court to know she's definitely entitled a reasonable amount of support until she can get her behind back in the studio as one poster said and start doing for herself again.

I think that since there is a child involved, then both parents need to do their part. They should work together for the child's sake. Kalis seems like a smart enough person that she can make her own way, she should not have to rely on her ex's money (for herself). Whether or not she receives alimony, she needs to get back into the swing of things and make her own way. I don't believe that NAS will leave his kid high-n-dry...He didn't seem to do it with his first kid (and that relationship didn't last either, but that baby-mama isn't complaining about support). I don't think Kalis has anything to worry about when it comes to the kid.

But honestly, women really need to start getting up and "taking care of their own business". Don't wait for a man to give you anything, this way you can show him that you are independent enough to handle things on your end.

I'm still trying to figure out how she got broke, of all the money she made during her years on top. At least a few thousand dollars in the money market, unless she didnt make much which is hard to believe.

Oh how the tables have turned , just a few years back miss kelis was in court with hubby having his child support amened with his his first baby momma and mistreating the the FIRST child . What comes around goes around

I know exactly how she feels! I was in the similiar situation, penniless and child. Get after him for child support!!!!

Maybe the baby aint his, maybe that's why she filed for divorce. Aint no way ur broke and u just decided u want a divorce. That just dont sound right. There is more to that situation.

If Nas cheated on her and she didnt sign a pre nub he needs to pay up and move on!! either way he should keep her in the lifesyle she was use to living with him because he had her living like that. Russel Simmons didnt not take anything from Kimora he made sure she and there kids were okay that is what he needs to do.

my advice to kelis, seek child support this is do the baby it self, nas should own up to responsibity' some how try to open line's of communication that you once had, because the key was lost, it 's a pity such a beautiful young couple, has lost love and understanding i think this baby is important here! sound after birth of your child try to reestablish yourself and get gounded in your career, because you are really a gifted lady i simply adore your music maybe try acting in movie's, in order to afford this beautiful lifestyle that your'e grown accustom to.i be cheering you on and somwhere watching at you for great acchievment. sinecerly do well.

Its sad ....but im soo turned off by the young black men... im 26 black. I have three kids the first all black and my last two mixed with white. And being married to a hardworking white men who takes care of his kids is nothing to knock bc he's white. But no matter what she can pawn all the stuff and get accustomed to a new lifestyle for which she and her baby should get used too! And of course the courts are going to make him pay up.... eventually!
