Kelis Says Nas Has Cut Her Off Without A Penny

Posted Mon Jun 15, 2009 12:58pm PDT by Andy Pemberton in Musictoob

Kelis says that estranged husband Nas has cut her off without a penny--just as she is expecting their child this month.

According to legal papers, rap star Nas is not paying any prenatal expenses and Kelis is flat broke. "I have run out of money," she said.

Kelis is asking a judge to order Nas to pay spousal support, child support, all pregnancy-related expenses, and one half of all medical expenses after the child is born. She also wants $3,500 for the baby nurse after the child's birth, and $20,000 for strollers, cribs, and other baby supplies.

Kelis says she is entitled to maintain the lifestyle she became accustomed to during their marriage. That was a lifestyle that involved owning expensive jewelery, like a diamond bracelet worth $190,000, a 9-carat, cushion-cut solitaire diamond engagement ring, and numerous watches "such as Cartier, Rolex, Frank Muller, and Chopard." The couple also owns five homes.

Nas has not yet responded.

Wow. And if the world was crazy enough!!

I mean, that's harsh. That's a LOT to be spending on a baby... And she's broke? Someone tell me how?!

Nas definitely needs to MAN UP and Kelis needs to sell that diamond bracelet, the engagement ring and all those watches if she's so broke. That's why I don't buy CDs. I refuse to help pay for someone else's extravagant and decadent lifestyle.

Both Kelis & Nas are good artist, & I thought they were a cute couple... But I also feel as if artist & celebrities spend uneccesary money which they didnt & couldnt spend when they werent rich or famous.. People get so used to spending that type of money rather than saving the money. I feel as if Nas should support his child as well as help his soon to be x-wife get her career back up & started (becasue i am pretty sure he wanted her to be a house wife/ pyt on his side)..

hasn't anyone noticed that the source of the article is Kelis. The title of the article begins with "Kelis says". we are only hearing one side of the story. don't be so quick to jump to conclusions, most of which are based on personal experiences to similar situations. And the issue of race is so tired and shouldn't even be mentioned. :-/

I wish people would "Stop Hating" those of you don't have a Man or Galor never been in a steady relationship, Don't know anything about a relationship..... Once you get married the relationship tends to change, it can be in a positive way or Negative one. The main ingreditant is "GOD" you have to stay prayful. We dont know what happend, really there are TWO sides to a story, and we don't know any of it.... And to anwer some of you scorned women's comment about Downing "Our Blackmen" there are plenty of Good brothers our here , its just your to "Getta" to know it!! Change Yourselves to see what type of men you will meet. trust me, I used to have that Stupid thinking, until I did something about me, it wasn't the man, it was me. The whiteman isn't the cure, they have problems just like that next man. Blackwomen stop putting a cure on race, and start fixing 'Ourselves instead" . Blackmen stop downing your own race. Have taken a look in the "MIRROR" lately? last time you checked I bet you were "BLACK". If stop calling each other those awful names b**** or puting price tags on what
type of girl she is {She a Dime piece} we'd have more scientist curing Cancer or Aids. We should be just wishing them the best. Not rushing to Judgement!!!! Cause remember if could be You. And as far as mixed races , if ur with that person because of the relationship! Who cares, Go for it!!!!

I guess her name won't be tattoed on his arm anymore and her milkshake must have made him leave the yard

I thought I heard Nas has another child that he neglected. I believe when he married Kelis the child was not even invited to the wedding. show's a pattern.

THERE ARE 3 SIDES TO THE STORY: HERS, HIS AND THE TRUTH. MANY OF YOU HAVE ONLY HEARD HERS. THE BABIES' NOT EVEN BORN YET SO WHY ARE SOME OF YOU CALLING THE MAN A DEADBEAT OR IRRESPONSIBLE. NAS DOES NOT OWE KELIS THE 'LIFESTYLE' SHE'S GROWN ACCUSTOMED TO. WHAT HE DOES OWE IS HIS UNBORN CHILD THE FATHER AND SUPPORT HE/SHE DESERVES. I'M SURE NAS WILL TAKE CARE OF HIS KID BUT KELIS GIVES OFF THIS PERSONA THAT SHE GOING TO USE THE BABY AS A PAWN (AS SOME WOMEN DO) FOR FINANCIAL GAIN. HOPEFULLY THEY CAN FIND SOME COMMON GROUND AND A MEETING OF THE MINDS (WITH LAWYERS OF COURSE) AND RESOLVE THEIR DIFFERENCES. FOR KELIS TO BE BROKE ONLY MEANS THAT SHE HAS BEEN IRRESPONSIBLE AND FRIVILOUS WITH HER EARNINGS OVER THE YEARS WHILE NAS (ALTHOUGH GAWDY AT TIMES) HAS BEEN MORE RESPONSIBLE. STAY TUNED.....

yea, i think Nas should pay for anything that deals with the child but not for Kelis's luxury lifestyle that she no longer has!!!

132. Rashele -
I believe that Nas should pay for the child support. I do not believe that Nas should pay for her lifestyle she is totally capable of going back in the studio she just wants to be lazy, and what baby items is she buying that cost 20,000 dollars the baby would not know if it was playing with a dollar store rattle or a 5,000 dollar rattle come on lets get real

133. Yahoo! Music User -
theoflex9, your spelling is horrible and you might think about taking a correspondence course as well. The difference between what you wrote, and the correct way would be a difference of less than 20 letters. Are you that lazy? Also, invest in some punctuation while you're at it. Capital letters wouldn't hurt either. You write worse than a slave sounded hundreds of years ago. "Datz horibul da way u spel dog."

134. free me from this misery -
well i think kelis n nas should atleast try to work out their differences for their baby's sake instead of bringing the baby into the world full of all their drama.

135. Jac -
When will women learn, that when you marry into money like Nas, the day you say "I do", start preparing for divorce, save, save, save!

136. markel -
Terri 1798-
I think nas should take care of the baby. kelis should sell some of her bling -bling.

137. Diamond -
Correction: if there was a pre-nup, Kelis is gonna have 2 do whateva she has 2 do 2 take care of her child, if there was no pre-nup, Nas has 2 hope & pray that Kelis doesn't be the typical "rich b*&^% getting a divorce" & ask 4 stuff like $75,000 a month for spousal & then tack on another $35,000 for "the baby." Let the divorce be amicable and respectful so that they don't alter their future relationship as parents!

138. HopeB -
LOL she should have saved her money instead of spending it all on frivolous things like jewelry, cars, clothes, etc.
Sorry you were irresponsible with your money Kellis. Doesn't mean your "estranged" husband has to pick up the slack. Don't depend on a man for anything, that's the moral of this story. If your a "boss" then how come your "penniless?" I'm 9 months pregnant and currently make more money than my man. Learn to fend for yourself Kellis.

139. steven s -
She needs to take her "milkshake" and tell him "I Hate You So Much Right Now" She's broke? Whos' fault is that? Not Nas' !
Girl, get off your butt and put a record together. There is no reason in the world why you can't make your own way. People will respect you more for it than demanding child support.
