Keith Richards Fights A Rear Guard Action To Save The Stones
Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards is fighting a battle to save his beloved band amid rumors that drummer Charlie Watts quit the band. His weapon? Jack White!
The wrinkly rhythm guitarist has "just happened" to let slip he is working with the White Stripes supremo--to deflect attention from the Watts situation.
Richards, 65, says he has recorded a number of songs with Jack White.
The guitarist told Rolling Stone that the pair had laid down some material in the studio.
"I enjoy working with Jack. We've done a couple of tracks," said Richards.
Asked whether White will be producing the next Rolling Stones album, Richards said, "I couldn't fuel that rumor any more than to say Jack and I are in touch."
Richards also revealed that he is working on his autobiography, while he and Stones frontman Mick Jagger are currently sorting through outtakes for a deluxe reissue of the 1972 LP Exile On Main Street.
This week it was reported that well respected rummer Charlie Watts, 68, had quit the band. The Rolling Stones were quick to issue a denial.
"Contrary to a fabricated story that ran this morning on a small music website in Australia, drummer Charlie Watts has not left the Rolling Stones," the band said in a statement on Wednesday.
In 2004, Watts was treated from throat cancer, which is now in remission.
