NME Awards 2009
Grabbing backstage interviews with Peter Doherty, Muse, The Mighty Boosh, MGMT, Elbow, and quite a few more?
The sight of the drunkest man in the room writhing around in a puddle of wine?
It was a remarkable night, one that a lot of people are calling the best NME Awards ever. Check out the full list of winners here.
The main talking point of the night, of course, was the surprise acoustic performance by Blur's Damon Albarn and Graham Coxon, the first time they have shared a stage since 2002. The pair played a staggering version of "This Is A Low," which I've always thought was their best song (although I wonder how well the Shipping Forecast references translate in the U.S.? It's such a quintessentially British concept).
Also in attendance were the Killers, Crystal Castles, Tim Burton (who presented the Godlike Genius award to The Cure), Franz Ferdinand, Brody Dalle (who popped backstage to say hi to the poor NME types, like me, who spent most of the night locked in an airless production office) and loads more.
Like I say, it was a pretty special night, but if you'll excuse me, I think I need a liedown now. The hangover is starting to bite.
