The Search For The Next Punkycat Doll Is Over!

Posted Wed Feb 20, 2008 11:10pm PST by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

Those of you distracted by American Idol might not have realized that another talent search, Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious, debuted this week on the CW. (Update alert: The winner of last year's The Search For The Next Pussycat Doll, Asia Something, opted not to join PCD in the end, so she could instead launch a sure-to-be-stellar solo career. Good luck with that, Asia.)

Anyway, back when The Search For The Next Pussycat Doll was still battling Idol for precious disc space on my TiVo in early 2007, there was one prospective living Doll that I was seriously rooting for: a flamehaired, Hot Topic-attired hottie named Sisely. You know, the token "girl with an edge," as show judge/PCD svengali Robyn Antin loved to remind less observant viewers before and after every commercial break.

Unfortch, Sisely seemed more at home in bondage pants and baby tees that the burlesque slutgear and ridiculous curly-cue Ken Paves hair extensions stylists forced her to wear on the show, so it was only a matter of time before flip-flopping Robyn stopped praising Sisely's "uniqueness" and started berating her for not fitting in with the Pussycat aesthetic. And so, poor Sis was cut--but not before making an impression with her rawkin' swan song, a punky rendition of Pat Benatar's "Heartbreaker." Yep, I can barely remember Asia, but I still remember Sisely.

So I'm happy to deliver some rad news to my fellow Siselyheads: Teenacide Records founder Jim Freek (a sort of modern-day Kim Fowley) has put the rockin' runner-up smack dab in front of a new fab prefab band, the cleverly named Safety Pin-Ups, featuring members of local powerpop outfits--including Blondie's Clem Burke on drums! And she's belting out a cover of the Saints' 1970s punk classic "Do The Robot"! Holy frig!

Now that's something you don't see on TV every day. But you can see it right now at the Teenacide website.

Go check it out, and attention, hormonal punk-rock dudes: You will wish your girlfriend was hot like Sisely.

Where do I sign up for the Teenacide/Sisely and the Safety Pin-Ups/Jim Freek cult? This single rules the (summer) school.

Thanks for the update on Asia. I didn't know she opted not to join PCD, so she could instead launch a solo career. I wish her the best of luck too.

Great update on Sisely. I love her too. So glad to see the Josiah's and Sisely's of the reality music world not sell them selves short, and remain true to themselves.

Given that Asia's done nothing, I have a feeling the writer might have been being sarcastic, but if you want an update on Asia I founf this article:

Asia was my favorite. I'm sorry she didn't join the group. Maybe she was just using the show for exposure.
