Lemingheads, Lament: Josiah Is Gone!

Posted Wed Feb 13, 2008 6:42pm PST by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

Well, only hours after I sung the praises of American Idol semi-finalist Josiah Leming and prematurely cleared a space for his voting number on my speed-dial (sorry, Mom, I'll re-program your number later), I've been hit with the shocking news that this favorite contestant of mine did not make it through to the final 24.

I'm about to cry on cue--just like Josiah himself!

Seriously, despite Josiah's barely-standing version of "Stand By Me" last night, I stood by him. I definitely still thought he was worthy of a spot among the the 12 final boys. And my respect for him only grew when I checked out his MySpace page and discovered that his influences included cool, credible Britpop bands like Radiohead, Travis, Blur, Echo & the Bunnymen, Oasis, Supergrass, and Keane (not to mention Mika, the U.K songwriter he covered on last night's show).

I honestly can't believe a Brit like Simon Cowell let a promising young Anglophile like Josiah slip away. Blimey!

Well, until the Idol powers-that-be reinstate the "wild card" policy that once gave ousted Idol semi-finalists like Clay Aiken a second chance, I encourage all my fellow Lemingheads to petition on the message board below, begging Simon, Randy, and Paula to give poor Josiah another shot. Or at least encourage Idol sponsor Ford Motors give the boy a new Focus or something, so he has a nicer, newer car to sleep in.

And since we won't be seeing Josiah on future American Idol episodes, I'll leave you with this amateur video of the boy wonder in all his fake-English-accented glory. He will be missed:

Thank God he didn't make it! He was an egotistical phony. Serves him right.

One more episode of that put-on English accent and I would've just died!

i love u josiah

you still have my vote

I don't think Josiah was egotistical. He started off insecure but I think when he got all that praise at the beginning it went to his head a bit. He is a very young kid--emotionally young, even for 18. I don't know if he could have handled the pressure of being on this show, since he broke into tears at the drop of a hat. He has some growing up to do before he can puruse a career in the cut-throat music business. But I do hope this is not the last we've heard of him. josiah has talent, that I am sure of. He just needs time to mature.

I simply don't think that Josiah was talented enough..look at the competition this year..they aren't kidding when they say this is the best bunch of talent yet. I also think he doesn't have the maturity level for the grueling task of american idol..perhaps we'll see him next year improved..good luck Josiah..i do think it was the right decision!

American Idol is exactly the type of thing that Josiah needs to polish his sound. He has fantastic raw talent. And, to say that he is egotistical, come on folks, the boy lives in a car. That has to instill a certain sense of humility. He definitely deserves a second chance. I'm disgusted by the judges for pumping this poor boy up only to toss him aside with such little disregard.

he deserves another chance. I thought he was good.

I think Josiah could have made it far if he hadn't got so sure of himself. Great singer.

The English accent was tough to take...however, this child is gifted. My heart broke last night...really broke....

The problem with Josiah was that he was sooooo pretentious.

Some auditionees that you think will make it don't and some whom you think might not be good enough rise to the challenge - its what makes Idol special. I am sorry to see anyone go at this stage - we only get the edited highlights on UK tv on Thurs/Fri - but in my opinion the Judges tend to get it right. Good luck to all the final 24.

He has the talent, needs some maturity but he deserved a spot...I say bring him back!

I agree he does have some maturing to do. I really hope we see him soon or next year. He could end up surprising us all. But the boy has talent for sure. Maybe he will mature over the next year and come back and blow us all way with his talent.
