Lemingheads, Lament: Josiah Is Gone!

Posted Wed Feb 13, 2008 6:42pm PST by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

Well, only hours after I sung the praises of American Idol semi-finalist Josiah Leming and prematurely cleared a space for his voting number on my speed-dial (sorry, Mom, I'll re-program your number later), I've been hit with the shocking news that this favorite contestant of mine did not make it through to the final 24.

I'm about to cry on cue--just like Josiah himself!

Seriously, despite Josiah's barely-standing version of "Stand By Me" last night, I stood by him. I definitely still thought he was worthy of a spot among the the 12 final boys. And my respect for him only grew when I checked out his MySpace page and discovered that his influences included cool, credible Britpop bands like Radiohead, Travis, Blur, Echo & the Bunnymen, Oasis, Supergrass, and Keane (not to mention Mika, the U.K songwriter he covered on last night's show).

I honestly can't believe a Brit like Simon Cowell let a promising young Anglophile like Josiah slip away. Blimey!

Well, until the Idol powers-that-be reinstate the "wild card" policy that once gave ousted Idol semi-finalists like Clay Aiken a second chance, I encourage all my fellow Lemingheads to petition on the message board below, begging Simon, Randy, and Paula to give poor Josiah another shot. Or at least encourage Idol sponsor Ford Motors give the boy a new Focus or something, so he has a nicer, newer car to sleep in.

And since we won't be seeing Josiah on future American Idol episodes, I'll leave you with this amateur video of the boy wonder in all his fake-English-accented glory. He will be missed:

givwe this byt another chance some others are not as good as him

please reconsider and let josiah come back for a second chance. i think he is one that really took this seriously and as Simon said originally - he really has talent. Please give him another try.

This is to Lovenice. Who gave you the right to give your opinion? You probably have everything in your nice part of the world, the boy can sing, yes he lives in his car, for a reason, so you flip your nose at him?? Go back and learn some manners...you aren't nice!!!

What was wrong with Josiah asking the band to Jazz up Stand by Me? All he wanted to do was sing the song with a new modern twist. Too bad Idol can not be fresh, modern, and cutting edge. BOO to the Band for not mixing up the timing of the song for his audition.

Soooo glad he is gone!! He just needs to go back home, get back in school and get an education. That's what will take him far, because I seriously doubt I'll be hearing him on the radio anytime soon.....and I pray I don't!! That stupid fake british accent was so freaking annoying!!

66. Mark -
If Josiah is given a second chance, then the other 143 contestants who didn't make it would need a second chance as well. This is a competition and he choked on his last audition. There are no "do overs." Life isn't always fair but that's what makes it life.

As someone who dvr'd this and hasn't gotten through the whole hollywood round, I couldn't believe he was cut. From what I saw so far, he was great. Interesting and original..unlike a lot of others that have great but "deja vu" voices.

He was a cry baby... I liked him at first, but when he "dismissed" the band i saw him as a real jerk.

69. Ja -
definitly bring him back,,, this little boy will probably end up in the streets. He needs this show more than anyone,,, and he deserved to be in the top 12

I don't have a problem with his psuedo english accent. Think about all of the recent pop stars who fake a Jamaican accent SHAGGY etc. No one gave them heat. I think his Brit musical influences are real and that is who he is. Don't change your music is comes from someplace real and emotional. Idol would have stolen that from you...but the money's good. I hope to see you on the Alt Rock (not POP) charts.

Josia is without a doubt is a very talented young man! I hope he takes this opportunity to do some maturing. Josia I hope to see you audition for next years American Idol!!!

72. john -
what is wrong with the idol judges? are they
not hearing what the rest of us are. please send him back to the show as a wild card.

I wish he would have made it! But I think if he tries next year, he'll be older and have maybe a little more experience that'll get him through. It made me mad that Drew Poppelreiter didn't get through: he was so good-looking! C'mon Simon, Randy, Paula, everyone loves a country boy!!!! I spent all night listening to "Teardrops On My Guitar". He was a good singer too, and I definitly would have bought his CD if he'd made it far enough!

I really feel bad for him, granted i don't think he was "the best", but he needed the confidence to keep going on, For god sakes the boy was living in his car, anyone ever know why? Again, where are his parents? they need a good dose of reality , too in my opinion. I think he does need to be brought back if there were such a "wild card" thing again....

Git back in your mouse and beat it. Crybaby

this kid has emotional issues which got in his way. i don't think he lives in the moment. but...he has a unique and appealing voice. he also doesn't seem to get the team player concept. so dismissing the band was a big political mistake. and like it or not, that seems to be how the world in America works. and maybe every other country too. i think he was let go because of this not because of his voice or the bad audition. i would like to see him come back once he is done eating the humble pie and rejoins the ranks of the domicile living people in the country. he seems to suffer for the sake of suffering. a waste of time really.

I love his voice !!!He made a mistake but he should have made it through !!! At the very least Idol should help the young man get on his feet and off the streets !!! Please let Tell Idol to help him!!!!

78. Cathy -
I thought he was very talented and since he probably won't get brought back...there is always next year. It will give him another year to grow and mature and get even better and he might just make it next year. Good luck Josiah and don't give up!!!

79. Christopher -
It's a singing competition...remember. If we start feeling sorry for the plight of Josiah, we will create another Sanjaya fiasco!

i am so glad that little English thing is gone. His voice was really aggravating
