Lemingheads, Lament: Josiah Is Gone!

Posted Wed Feb 13, 2008 6:42pm PST by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

Well, only hours after I sung the praises of American Idol semi-finalist Josiah Leming and prematurely cleared a space for his voting number on my speed-dial (sorry, Mom, I'll re-program your number later), I've been hit with the shocking news that this favorite contestant of mine did not make it through to the final 24.

I'm about to cry on cue--just like Josiah himself!

Seriously, despite Josiah's barely-standing version of "Stand By Me" last night, I stood by him. I definitely still thought he was worthy of a spot among the the 12 final boys. And my respect for him only grew when I checked out his MySpace page and discovered that his influences included cool, credible Britpop bands like Radiohead, Travis, Blur, Echo & the Bunnymen, Oasis, Supergrass, and Keane (not to mention Mika, the U.K songwriter he covered on last night's show).

I honestly can't believe a Brit like Simon Cowell let a promising young Anglophile like Josiah slip away. Blimey!

Well, until the Idol powers-that-be reinstate the "wild card" policy that once gave ousted Idol semi-finalists like Clay Aiken a second chance, I encourage all my fellow Lemingheads to petition on the message board below, begging Simon, Randy, and Paula to give poor Josiah another shot. Or at least encourage Idol sponsor Ford Motors give the boy a new Focus or something, so he has a nicer, newer car to sleep in.

And since we won't be seeing Josiah on future American Idol episodes, I'll leave you with this amateur video of the boy wonder in all his fake-English-accented glory. He will be missed:

I am sorry to see him go. Simon is great but shame on him for judging Josiah so harshly for dismissing the band. He knew his 5:00 am rehersal didn't cut the grade so he grasped at something that might. The judges say to take chances and then cut your legs from under you when you do. He definitely has talent, I hope his dreams come true.

I have to admit I was shocked to hear them say "no" to Josiah. It was not at all what I expected. I did not find him egotistical at all and I believe even with his somewhat off balance "Stand by me" rendition...he still deserved to move on just on his first audition in Hollywood. It was great, unique, and I PERSONALLY LOVED IT. I wish that they would have given him another shot and they didn't.
I wish him all the luck in the world and hope that someone saw the show and sign him quick because I would buy his cd.

Fragile and bare, prone to highs and lows - most people who are gifted with creative arts are this way. I would love to see him perform - now- before "hollywood" takes hold. Maybe it's better he left the show. It would be sad to see him compromised; I hope a label picks him up and lets him pursue music his own way. I would buy that music.

You have to be a nanny, a dork, or a slutty to make it through this season. Josiah blew them all away.

Bring josiah back!!!

I am heartbroken. He was so unique and I was looking forward to seeing what he can do. I cried when Randy said it was no. I really believe they made a mistake.

He was my vote. I was happy they finally had something different!

I would simply like to say that Josiah may not have the best voice but neither do some of the contestants that made it through. He definatley has that "special something" that Simon likes to point out. Also, since Idol does sponser the Idol Gives Back," to those that are in extreme need, please consider this young contestant and fellow American who is in extreme need and poverty. You reach out to young girl due to her weight which was great, but please let your heart of compassion reach out to this young boy who is literally homeless and probably doesn't have two nickles to rub together. Give him a joy or an opportunity to finish his education, a place to stay or anything that's better than where he is in life. Come on Idol, give back please.

I really think Josiah is a great singer and certainly a good song writer. Please, if anyone is reading this that has any influence, let them call him back. Good luck Josiah, you will be somebody someday in the real music world. I am a promoter of great singers, and I can see talent when it's there!!

How does he keep a myspace account? A laptop running off other peoples internet? LOL

Both my fiance and I were totally disappointed and shocked that Josiah did not make it! I hardly think that he was egotistical or arrogant...just the opposite, he was a talented, scared young kid who had an amazing talent. We were sure that Simon would vote against him but that Paula and Randy would vote for him. From what we preceived, he sent the band away in his audition because he was more comfortable alone - that is not arrogance. I hope the judges will re-think their decision and we will have 25 finalists! God Bless you, Josiah.

Josiah has a very James Blunt-type quality to his songs and I thought he was fabulous. Great sinders are those who can elicit emotion from their audience, and he definitely did this with the other contestants at the Hollywood auditions as well as those of us who watched him at home. I wish him the absolute best of luck and hope to hear of an album from him being released in the VERY NEAR future.

I did not care for him, I think he is to unmature at this time, he really let it go to his head after his first audition in Hollywood. I think the judges made the right decision. keep working at it and come back when your older.

98. Lynn -
I agreed with the judges on this one. He was not ready, he proved that on the final day of the audition.

99. David -
It wasn't a fake English accent, it was a southern accent you twit.

I THINK JOSIAH HAS WONDERFUL TALENT AND WAS UPSET THAT HE WAS BUMPED OUT. HE WOULD HAVE BEEN A GOOD ROLE MODEL FOR YOUNG TEENS TODAY. HE WAS GIVEN AN OPPORTUNITY TO PRACTICE WITH THE BAND BUT AS LIFE GIVES US CHOICES, HE OPTED NOT TO TAKE IT AND AGAIN SPURNED THE BAND IN HIS AUDITION... CHOICE NUMBER 2. GIVEN HIS YOUTH, TALENT AND SITUATION, I THINK THE LAWS OF THE MUSIC BIZ SHOULD BE EXPLAINED AND HE SHOULD BE BROUGHT BACK AS HE IS SOOOOO MUCH BETTER THAN 90 PERCENT OF THE OTHERS!
