Lemingheads, Lament: Josiah Is Gone!

Posted Wed Feb 13, 2008 6:42pm PST by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

Well, only hours after I sung the praises of American Idol semi-finalist Josiah Leming and prematurely cleared a space for his voting number on my speed-dial (sorry, Mom, I'll re-program your number later), I've been hit with the shocking news that this favorite contestant of mine did not make it through to the final 24.

I'm about to cry on cue--just like Josiah himself!

Seriously, despite Josiah's barely-standing version of "Stand By Me" last night, I stood by him. I definitely still thought he was worthy of a spot among the the 12 final boys. And my respect for him only grew when I checked out his MySpace page and discovered that his influences included cool, credible Britpop bands like Radiohead, Travis, Blur, Echo & the Bunnymen, Oasis, Supergrass, and Keane (not to mention Mika, the U.K songwriter he covered on last night's show).

I honestly can't believe a Brit like Simon Cowell let a promising young Anglophile like Josiah slip away. Blimey!

Well, until the Idol powers-that-be reinstate the "wild card" policy that once gave ousted Idol semi-finalists like Clay Aiken a second chance, I encourage all my fellow Lemingheads to petition on the message board below, begging Simon, Randy, and Paula to give poor Josiah another shot. Or at least encourage Idol sponsor Ford Motors give the boy a new Focus or something, so he has a nicer, newer car to sleep in.

And since we won't be seeing Josiah on future American Idol episodes, I'll leave you with this amateur video of the boy wonder in all his fake-English-accented glory. He will be missed:

He crumbled, he needs to mature, he's out. I feel worse for the last guy let go...the one Simon disagreed with. Now he had a great voice and performed well. He is the one that really deserved the chance to stay!!!!

I agree - thanks goodness he is gone. Those were very fake tears...Think about how easy he could turn them on and off. phoney!!!

That was the dumbest move the show has made. I don't even want to watch anymore! I hope this kid finds a music producer who knows talent! I will buy his CD TODAY!

His not making it was the biggest surprise of the evening. Totally unfair as I thought he did great and was different, unlike several others that made it through. I was routing from him from the beginning. Give the kid a chance...

Maybe Josiah has some emotional growing to do. But he has a lot of talent. I was so rooting for him to make it through. I thought surely they would pass him through after keeping him the night before. I mean i thought they were going to send him home after he did so badly with Stand By Me. But they kept him saying how much talent he had. And then they cut him the next day. I hope he comes back next year to try again. He has a great voice.

PLEASE REINSTATE HIM AS A WILD CARD!!!!

Soooo very glad he got the boot. He was just a little too, too Drama King for me. All of the crying and the sheepish self-egrandizing. I couldn't take it--or the fake british accent on every song. Trust that we've already seen the artistic/vocal range of this young man. He needs to get over himself and come back next year (because there is something there), but leave the GB-derivative stylization at home.

Josh is a puss! Anyone who cries as much as he does is to weak to deal with the pressures of performing at a high level every night. I am glad he is gone especially when he "excused" the band and then absolute butchered the song. I don't mind a man crying from time to time but he is a little to much for me.

can't believe they cut him, he was one of the best !!!

cry baby,crrryyyyy...!!!!!!!

His overconfidence hurt him. At least he had a hotel room to sleep in for a week.

I don't think that he was really being cocky. I think he was afraid of ruining his chances with the band and then he blew it anyway. He should have chosen a song that would work with the accent. He has talent and could easily have become the favorite due to his hardships and the fact that he needs a family and some goals.

I WAS REALLY SORRY TO SEE JOSIAH NOT MAKE THE FINAL 24... THAT BOY REALLY HAS TALENT AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN SENT THROUGH....IF THE JUDGES COULD REVERSE THEIR DECISION THEY WOULD BE PROUD OF JOSIAH....

I HOPE JOSIAH CAN GET HIS LIFE IN ORDER...

I'm not watching anymore of this season unless they bring Josiah back. He was the best one they had!

hey, he's only 18 and evendently crying at the drop of a dime has gotten him what he's wanted thus far. Hopefully, this will teach him childs play is over, it's time to man up and do grown man things, and understand that grown men don't always get what they want. Work hard Josiah, you have talent God has given you that. Develop your craft.Stop crying get stronger and this music industry will be yours!! Much love.

If we didn't know his sad story of living in his car, how much would his audiitons would we remember? He is an adorable guy who has a sad story and that touches our hearts. Of course we want him to excel.

I like the idea of Ford giving Josiah a new car. What a great marketing tool! I too hope to see Josiah again. He's the underdog America loves to love.
