Idol Results Show: JUDGES' SAVE FINALLY USED!

Posted Wed Apr 15, 2009 7:24pm PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

For weeks now, I've been saying that the whole "Judges' Save" thing is just a gimmick concocted to create drama, and that the judges would probably never even use it, unless there was some upset and a frontrunner like Adam Lambert or Danny Gokey inexplicably ended up in the bottom. It absolutely pained me the way they judges toyed with Scott MacIntyre last week, making it seem like he had a shot at being saved and reducing him to begging for another chance ("I can please you, Simon!"), when all along I was certain that the judges never really seriously considered frittering away their Save on him.

But this week, I was proven wrong. Sure, I (GLOATING ALERT!) correctly predicted the bottom three this week--Anoop Desai, Lil Rounds, and Matt Giraud--but I certainly didn't think the Judges' Save would be used on any of them.

D'oh!

Anoop was actually OK this week, instructed by Ryan Seacrest to head back to the couch first, although he didn't even seem happy when Ryan told him the news. (It was like Ryan was just prolonging his agony for another week.) And so it came down to Matt and Lil. Simon, for suspense's sake, hinted that one of the two might be worthy of the elusive and mysterious Judges' Save, and that "it might be a surprise to that person."

Did that mean he'd want to save Lil, despite his cross words for her last night? Or that he'd save Matt, despite Matt's inconsistency all season long and many showings in the bottom three? To be honest, I barely even paid attention to Simon, because, as I said, I totally did not believe that the judges had serious intentions of saving either singer.

Well, it turned out that, as Ryan somewhat over-dramatically worded it, "Idol history has been made!!" Because tonight, the Judges' Save WAS used--on Matt Giraud, who seemed more surprised than anyone, including me. There was of course the usual drama--the judges argued viciously over whether to utilize the Save, and though I'm sure it was all just acting that ought to be recognized by the Emmy committee come voting time, I did get the impression that Simon was out-voted and didn't really want to save Matt. "I don't believe there's any way you can win this competition," Simon snidely drawled to a visibly deflated Giraud, before doing a 180 and saying, "Matt...it's good news."

Yeah, that makes sense: Squander the one Judges' Save of the season on someone who has no real shot. I just hope Adam or my girl Allison Iraheta aren't on the chopping block next week, because they, along with the rest of the contestants, will be working without a safety net from now on.

AND two singers will go home next week.

AND next week is Disco Night! Egad!

No wonder Anoop looked so bummed.

dial idol got it wrong again.

2. who cares -
Well I like Matt so I am glad they saved him. But i still think Lil's songs are numbered.

I don't know why you'd be bummed about disco week considering who your favorites are. Adam has shown he can sing disco (and anything else), but I'm not so sure about Allison. I'm not too up on my disco knowledge, so I can't think of any songs that would be good for her.

As for the rest of the contestants, I have a feeling we might be seeing some bad karaoke next week.

Looking forward to disco week! Hopefully we will finally get rid of that horrible, horrible danny gokey!

I'd call the save justifiable, but I'm scared somebody that I want to win, like Allison, will go next week or something terrible.

LOL. So it wasn't a myth afterall.....

The whole thing was a tad anticlimatic for me. I really couldn't have cared less if either of them went home even though I feel Lil Rounds deserved the boot more. Matt's performance was worse than last night (from where I'm sitting) but it was soooooooo obvious they were going to use 'The Save'. I mean, come on, they have to maximize the drama, of course. The mysterious save is finally used and next week 2 people will go! Oooooh, the suspense of it all.

But as usual, I can't wait for Tuesday to roll around. DISCO Night!!!!!!!!! That should be interesting...........

So the Lil save was used for Matt! I like him so I think it's cool. If it had been Lil or Anoop they used the save on- I would've been ticked off and here's why.....
Lil seriously can't think she is growing as an artist just because she sang a Bette Midler song and they told her not to sing anything but Mary J. Blige songs. And the wig length does not mean you are improving either. She could have Crystal Gayle hair next week and still suck. And P.S. leave the douch bag back talking to Anoop.
Speaking of Anoop- what the crap was up with his performance yesterday? He looked like he had just eaten a bucket of fried chicken. He was greasy! Powder the man- somebody please! And what was up with that crazy jacket he wore? It was like a letterman suit coat. It looked like he played for Team Accountant! Note to all future and current idol contendors... avoid Bryan Adams songs. 'Nuf said.
As for tonight's show- Jennifer Hudson gets better and better. She was a star tonight- that is how it is done, Lil. As for Miley- I thought she did okay, but I wish someone would have taken the clothespin off her nose. And I think Randy's stand in was white.

Disco Week will root out the losers. As long as Adam does his thing and nobody sings freaking Gloria Gaynor! Maybe Lil can sing Donna Summers and dance her last dance. (Here's Hoping!)

Pathetic. The girl judges didn't get their way last week to keep Scott so they got their way this week. Matt was terrible, come on. Please add eight more judges next Idol and three more saves. Allison is overrated.

Am happy that Matt is around to sing another week. He is one of my faves along with Kris and Allison. I think Adam is a great singer but I just haven't been able to get on board the Adam Express this year. He's too polished or something for my tastes. Next week should be interesting.

Love the blog Lyndsey. It's one of the first things I read online on Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

MATT, ANOOP, KRIS AND LIL ARE NEXT, IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER. MAYBE LIL SHOULD DO A DONNA SUMMER SONG--BELT IT OUT AND LET'S SEE WHAT WE KNOW SHE'S GOT! ALLISON IS STAYING REGARDLESS; THERE ARE A FEW LEFT NOT AS GOOD AS SHE IS. CAN'T HAVE ALL GUYS IN THE FINAL FIVE OR FOUR, WOULDN'T MAKE SENSE. HONESTLY, I DON'T THINK MATT, KRIS OR ANOOP ARE GOING TO WIN THIS COMPETITION ANYWAY; THE REST STILL HAVE A CHANCE.

12. tina l -
I, as well, am surprised that they used the "save" on Matt. He has done some good performing on the show, but last nights performance wasn't that good. Lil really should have been the one to go. She has given consistently poor performances I think and hasn't lived up to what we saw at the beginning. It seems like she just doesn't have her heart in it or something. And two are to leave next week. My guesses are Lil and Matt, with Anoop right behind. Disco week should be interesting. Hopefully they don't find some hidden cache of sappy, slow moving disco songs. Looking forward to a more upbeat show!

Great sense of humor this week. I loved the gloating alert! Though I was a weeeeee bit critical last week, you took it in stride. It's cool that you interact with us and read the responses we put here. And, though I kind of liked Matt, I agree that the save should have been used for someone who had a chance of winning. That said, I don't think the most consistent performers (Adam, Alison and Danny) will be in the bottom three next week. They each should be able to handle disco night.

14. Miss R. -
What a waste of the save.

15. PLATNUM -
Lyndsey- I love ur blogs. I read them every Wed. and Thurs.

ADAM IS THE BEST AS ALWAYS!!!! LOVE HIM!!!
anyways can we get rid of Kris. Im soooo sick of his boring poor song choices and his mediocre nothing special performances. sorry Kris fans. His lips are crooked everytime he opens his mouth. BORING!!

BTW it was great just hearing 2 judges speak i loved it!

16. Yahoo! Music User -
I was really hoping Lil would be sent packing tonight! She has got to go! My favs are Adam and Allison. I do like Matt (have to support a fellow Michigander!) and if they were going to use the save, they would had to use it tonight or next week...next week we could see Anoop or Lil go, therefor it wouldn't be used, so we hope. Next week should be interesting, I wouldn't be heartbroken if Danny ends up in the bottom three, even if it were just to knock him down a peg. But I'm sure some people feel that way about Adam. Is it Tuesday, yet? LOL!

17. Brenda H -
Matt and Lil need to go! I think the judges wasted a save. Danny is awesome! I love the gravel in his voice. Hey - and you know just like tonight's show noted - Jennifer Hudson was not an Idol winner but she has come out waaaaaaay better than other Idol winners - go they will all do well if they use this opportunity that has been given them.

18. Yahoo! Music User -
i really haven't followed the american idol this year but my mom has and she is insane for matt (don't ask why because i don't know) i think compared to the last few years they suck.

19. JulieH -
I really dislike Matt, Anoop and Lil. Any or all of them can go hojme next week as far as I'm concerned. Matt was SO off key last night! He really deserved to go home... his song was a train wreck! And what's up with that giant mole in the middle of his forehead? Surely they can do SOMETHING to cover it! Lil is just continually flat and karaoke and needs to leave. Anoop's singing is not nearly as big as his enormous ego, and I am just sick of him and his perpetual smirk!

On the positive side, I LOVE Adam, Danny and Kris. Allison is also a great singer. She seems to be slightly lacking in personality, but I like her too. I hope those are the final four, for sure! I'd be ok with any of them winning, but my biggest wish is to see Adam and Kris in the finals, with Adam winning.

20. Robert -
ok so i think that the save was used on the right person!! Me personally....I want either him or Kris to win!!! Im sorry but I just cant stand Adam so i want him to go! Allison and Danny are great but they arent my favorites. Anoop and Lil, I am hoping, are the ones that end up going next week!! TOGETHER!!!
