Allison Iraheta: On The Scene At The Idols' Tour Rehearsals

Posted Wed Jul 1, 2009 1:30pm PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

Regular readers of Reality Rocks know I love me some Allison Iraheta. I was Team Addison (Adam + Allison) all throughout season 8--although "Team Kradison" (Kris + Adam + Allison) has a nice ring to it, too. And I was genuinely dejected when Allison only made it to fourth place, since I would have loved to see her in the finale. (Just imagine how this little rocker girl could have given Queen a run for their money!) However, my sadness soon turned to gladness once I learned that she'd been signed to 19 Recordings/Jive anyway. Woot!

In fact, I could scarcely contain my excitement over Allison's much-deserved new record deal when I sat down with her at the Idols Live Tour rehearsals. Actually, I could scarcely contain my urge to give her a big congratulatory hug--she was just so frickin' cute! And my exhilaration over Allison's burgeoning career only grew once she revealed that her debut album will be a decidedly rock 'n' roll affair, not watered-down tweenypop. (I feared her label might try to push this 17-year-old sweetheart of season 8 in a more poppy/Disney direction, but thankfully that's not going to be the case.)

Unfortunately, my interview with Allison was all too brief, as she was in the middle of lunch (or, as she endearingly worded it, "stuffing her face") with her mom, Sara Iraheta. But here's a nice behind-the-scenes side note: After this interview, Sara offered to make me my own lunch plate. I politely said no thank you, because I didn't want to inconvenience her--but, like any good motherly soul, Sara absolutely insisted I not go unfed, went into the lunchroom, and emerged with a beautiful, huge Greek salad that she'd arranged just for me.

Sara Iraheta has to be THE best stage mom ever. Is it any wonder Allison turned out to be such an awesome kid?

What's most awesome about Allison is that she always stays true to herself: Watch her gab in this extremely enjoyable interview about being the anti-Miley, standing up for herself on American Idol, and her role as the baby of the AI 8 cast. This clip is evidence that her mom certainly raised her right.

Up next...my final rehearsal interview, with Danny Gokey!

She was definitely my favorite chick on AI this season! I can't wait to hear her album.

Awesome Talent. Awesome Future. Awesome Direction - non-Disney. Can any other teen stay on pitch before a live audience? Hope they have coached her well on "saving" her voice on tour.

Perhaps the best singer-performer in AI history. She was ripe for AI and a record deal at 16, no matter she did not win. It was her time. Records should be some of the very best MUSIC to come out for years to come.

Great interview, Ms Parker. I the Alli fans that I know really appreciate your putting the Disney question on the table. A huge collective exhale throughout the Music World after her response.

Thank God she's not doing Disney! She needs to stay far away from the Disney/Nickelodeon kiddies to be a legit rocker.

Love Allison, she's adorable. Thanks for the great interview! Can't wait for her album. I'm so glad she will be doing a duet on tour with Adam—my favorite Idol. I was on Team Addison in the beginning too, then Team Kradison. Gotta love the Kradam, they are just such a cute pair! Too bad those three don't get their own bus!

Wow Lindsey, you finally have an Allison Reality Rocks Interview (although short but it's still worthy). I have said it many times that Allison is the BEST Idol female contestant since Kelly Clarkson. I also dreamed of having a "Kradison FINALE", well looking forward to her album and it's great that she's not doing any tween-pop-secondratedrock thing, I hope she'll be like a contemporary Janis Joplin mixed with Pat Benatar and a little bit of Kelly Clarkson. I can't wait, any news to which producers is she working for her album???

Gotta love Allison. I was Adison all the way. But, yeah, I'm totally cool with Kradison. Kris is a way cool kid too. Allison is the cutest thing ever. I'm proud of her like I was her mama. She looks so cute and sweet without makeup and styling. Awww.

I absolutely love Allison. As soon as I saw her on the show singing Alone by Heart, I knew this girl was going places. I was shocked when she came in 4th on Idol. But I love her attitude and hope she always stays humble and true to herself never letting herself go down the road so many young people in Hollywood before her have. She is just so awesome on stage, and the Slow Ride duet was magic.

it's so refreshing to see someone as young as allison be so awesomely rocker and steer clear of the teeny pop style (don't we have enough of those?). it means i can maintain hopes for my 8-year-old cousin, who said he wants to be a rockstar when he grows up. i don't think i'd ever heard any kid say that (not so seriously, anyway). now i know what i can get him for his birthday (a brand spankin' new allison iraheta album!!!!)
