'American Idol' Scores Eight Emmy Nominations!

Posted Thu Jul 16, 2009 12:04pm PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

People may put down shows like American Idol, saying such reality programs signify the decline of quality television programming and possibly of western civilization in general.

But I just want to point out that American Idol earned EIGHT Emmy nominations today, including "Outstanding Reality - Competition Program" (it's up against Project Runway, Top Chef, Dancing With The Stars, and SIX-time winnner The Amazing Race). Not too shabby.

So...could THIS be the year that Idol finally beats The Amazing Race? Well, I personally think this was the best Idol season yet, so I certainly hope so.

Now we just need an award for 'Adam Lambert: Saviour of Idol' and I'll feel better!

You have to be kidding about this. The show was so sloppy this season that it couldn't even be bothered to finish on time. Perhaps the contestants were the best ever, but the extra judge and unwieldy presentation was a huge step back. How can a director that can't tell time be nominated for an emmy?
