The Video Robbie Carrico Doesn't Want You To See

Posted Tue Feb 26, 2008 12:20pm PST by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

To be perfectly fair, we all have our own blasts from our past that are a tad bit embarrassing.

You know, like naked baby photos of us in bathtubs or stomach-down on bearskin rugs. Or pizza-faced preteen snapshots that resemble "Before" photos from ProActiv print ads. Or mall-haired high school yearbook pics that are just begging to have a Glamour magazine "do's-&-don'ts" black bar slapped smack across the eyes.

Luckily for most of us, such damning evidence of our past uncoolness remains safely hidden away in shoeboxes, parents' attics, and in extreme cases, the ashes of a fireplace.

Sure, we all have proverbial skeletons in our closets. But for those who go on American Idol, such skeletons come marching straight out into broad daylight like an elaborate Dia De Los Muertos parade. And there ain't no shoebox, attic, or fireplace that keep those skeletons secret for long.

I am, of course, referring to "Messed Around," the incredibly incriminating and decidedly non-rockin' video by Boyz N Girlz United, the not-exactly-Daughtryish former group of bandanna-swathed American Idol hopeful Robbie "I'm Not A Pop Singer" Carrico.

Robbie looks pretty different now with his new Puddle Of Muddy persona, but he's still easy to spot in the "Messed Around" video, since his name is helpfully spelled out in a friendly, Nickelodeonish font across the screen.

Man, based on this cheesier-than-Cheetos clip, it's no wonder Simon Cowell isn't yet convinced that Robbie's a real "rocker." Will America's voters be convinced? Not if they see this first. But then again, this video is from the year 2000, and admittedly a lot can change in eight years. For instance, based on Robbie's own before-&-after pic at right, it definitely looks like he's gone through puberty since then!

Anyway, watch "Messed Around" and make up your own mind about Robbie's rockin'-ness:

Looks like Robbie already got his "big break"! Why not give someone else a chance? (of course the someone I'm thinking of is Josiah Leming!)

sadly i think robbie will end up in the top 12 but i do not think he is all that great. david cook is much better and authetnic. plsu i dont like robbie's attitude, hes too defensive

5. TERMINATOR -

He is not a rocker. Cannot hold a candle to Doughtery or even Bo Bice.
I will admit he looks better with his face and hair washed.

American Idol has become a joke over the years. Kelly Clarkson is the only true idol and everyone after her is a joke. The ones thta have come have either made a name for themselves or just went away.
Robbie and all this years finalists could get deals with out this show. They should rename "A.I." to "A.I. The Joke!"
"TIME TO END THIS FARCE OF A SHOW! DIE AMERICAN IDOL, DIE AND NEVER RETURN!"

Well that seems like that was a long time ago and so what if he wants to be a rocker! I mean people change all the time! Plus after getting a taste of the pop world looks like he started starving for something more and different. More power to him!!!

Everybody grows up and changes. A lot of pop singers start out with the nice squeaky clean image but after awhile they change. And recently we've seen that those images they come out as aren't always true. Britney Spears went from school girl virgin to skanky psycho. Christina Aguilera started out the same then turned "dirty" then onto classic pin up girl.

Give Robbie a break. If people hadn't known he was in a pop band before, would they still be questioning how rock he is?

Awe, he was so cute, I think he would do better with out the long hair and messy look, he can sing and dance, I don't think the video is a big deal, Go Robbie

13. Cynthia -
He was cute then

Why is everyone so uptight about this, he was barely a teenager then, why can't people morph and change into what they want to be? It's nauseus how Simon and others have jumped on the bandwagon of "not a real rocker" persona crap. I mean look at the other new rockers out there Peter Wentz, even Greenday or what about The White Stripes, most of that Rocker persona is from eyeliner and clothes...this guy is alright and at least has a good voice.

Robbie was good in this video . . . but not as a rocker. I know Robbie, as he grew up in my hometown, and all, but seriously. He may be a "rocker" now, but he sure wasn't back then!

Robbie will not make it in the Top 12 (I think) - and meangirl enuff with the plugs - go shop at www.xoomart.com already! ha! - His performance last nite did not stand out like Archuleta's or Chikezie's (that's my man!!) - this video was not too bad - the brotha in it is hot at least...

19. Syllerim -
hahahaha that is too funny like some of these contestants dnt think they are goin to get found out! Dont they know it comes w/the territory of being in front of a camera! Being someone ur not is one way to loose out in a lot of things as well as good contracts! Posers dnt go far!
