Kris Allen's Full Debut Single Premieres

Posted Mon Sep 21, 2009 9:18am PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

When Kris Allen performed on the season 8 American Idol finale alongside Keith Urban this year, I feared he might go in a country direction--a fear that was only solidified when I learned that his first post-Idol single would be called "Live Like We're Dying," a title bearing uncanny similarity to Tim McGraw's "Live Like You Were Dying."

But Kris's new single was premiered on the radio this week, and I am happy to report that it does not sound country at all. It sounds...well, it sounds like KRIS ALLEN. What I mean by that is, if I were flipping around my radio dial and I heard this tune, sans any radio DJ back-announcement, I would just know it was Kris's new single. Although it's actually a cover of a B-side by rising Irish band the Script, it still sounds distinctively like Kris...and more importantly, it sounds like a hit.

Too bad this couldn't have been Kris's coronation song instead of "No Boundaries":

AHHHH SO EXCITED. Now I just need a preview of Adam's first single and my day will be perfect.

You're right Lyndsey, the sound is totally Kris. I could almost picture him singing and bouncing with his guitar.

The sound is catchy but its a song that I think I would easily get tired listening to.

Love! It has a little bit of a bohemian, Mat Kearney vibe to it.

Hate it so far. Expected much better for his first single. The song is trash.

I have never like his voice or anything he sings. He needs to go back to Arkansas.

Don't hate it but wouldn't buy it either.

This is great! I think it's really catchy and the song does give him something to differentiate himself from other pop/rock artists.

He is a tiny many with talent to match.

It's a cover of The Script's B-side track. I don't like the fact that they're not letting him release his own music (maybe it's a time limit issue) because Kris is an awesome songwriter. Check out Wipe It Away. But I hope it does well, love him.
Man I'll cry if Adam releases cheesy dance/electronica/pop music and is marketed as Lord Gaga. Seriously. So many people hate her and he will be mocked to pieces, DNW that! His Citizen Vein stuff (eg. Nocturnal By The Moon) suits him so much. I'm still confused as to why he dropped rock for dance/pop. Born To Be Wild was his weakest studio yet he said that's the closest studio track his album sounds like, oh god. I'm soooo worried for him you have no idea. Same with Allison, DNW her morphed into another Disney singer when her voice is AMAZING and mature, she really deserves solid material. I want these 3 to do well so bad. And I want Matt G to get signed.

Not my fav. His voice sounds like he is straining. Where's that mellow sound Kris is so good at?
