Brian Dunkleman Weighs In

Posted Tue Apr 22 1:20pm PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

Much ado has been made (and sometimes made by me) about the American Idol producers' manipulative and sometimes downright cruel treatment of its contestants. And from duping Michael Johns into thinking he still had a shot during Idol Gives Back week to forcing David Archuleta to guess who was in the bottom three last week, this season has been no exception when it comes to such ratings-grabbing nastiness.

Well, this week on Celebrity Fit Club, season 1 Idol co-host/footnote Brian Dunkleman claimed that it was precisely this harsh treatment of the finalists that made him quit the show. Yes, that's right--he says he quit, that he was not fired.

Of course, the way Brian's former partner Ryan Seacrest psyched out Michael Johns recently is still nothing compared to how Celebrity Fit Club agitator Dustin Diamond tormented former Idol contestant (and rumored Harvey Walden IV gal pal) Kimberley Locke on Celebrity Fit Club last season. But if such treatment really is the reason why Brian bailed, then I applaud him for taking a stand. Even if he did readily admit that it was the worst career decision of his life.

(What...worse than going on Celebrity Fit Club?)

Anyway, it just makes me wonder if Michael Johns's elimination might have been a little nicer if Dunkleman had delivered the news instead of Ryan...

Food for thought.

Can AI fire Seacrest and rehire Dunkleman?

2. Scott -
Off the cuff here, but can AI borrow the band from DWTS? Every "rock" tune that RIcky Minor and his MIDI band attempts just flat out stinks. Always refreshing to see Cook, Castro, et al, playing their own instruments.

i always wondered what happened to brian, cause i thought he was funnier than ryan. coke, the advertiser, can do anything they want, as long as there's a profit. lol they televise the process of choosing a musician ($$), then advertise during the show, then make money off of the winner's music. this is a brilliant scheme. now they need a show like donald trump's to televise their office money making meetings (with all the drama), and it'll be a huge circle of profit. (they'll have the coke glasses on their desks, of course).

They removed the comment that I commented on when I wrote....

I guess yahoo agreed with me about them being a loser.

Hello all........Jonespere4u!

Well, I had LOW expectations for tonight's show but it was certainly entertaining. I just loved the way Syesha started off the show, standing on the piano, struting her stuff and boy what stuff she has to strut!!! Sorry, just got to FOCUS, well, now that's better; was still dazed by that red dress Syesha was wearing. WOW!!!!

1. Syesha, LOVED IT!!!!!

2. Jason C., "deer in the headlights" musical theater. I know why he wore the suit, so those big rings of sweat under his arms did not show!!! To put it kindly, Castro was NOT in his element.

3. Brooke, poor Brooke. What can I say??? Poor baby, she just can't spit out a flawless performance to save her life. Coffee Shop bound??? Sitting in a corner on her stool struming her guitar, for the faithful few??? I think she has "talent" BUT????? I still love you Brooke, But????

4. David A. , a reliable sorce of vanilla. He will survive, some people just love vanilla. An the tween girls all sighed!!!

5. Carly S., Good performance, I just hope that "Jesus Christ Superstar" does not bite you in that lovely Irish butt. In some conservative circles it is still considered a "blasphemous" musical. You might lose some conservative support, that is "if" you ever had any conservative support? When I was in High School, I got into considerable trouble for singing "Herod's song" out loud. I just missed getting burned at the stake; good luck!

6. David Cook, great performance, you showed exceptional versatility.....BUT....you don't have a hair on your butt cause you did not have the stone's to wear the cape and the mask and give us a "Simon Bashing", over the top, show stopping performance!!! Don't let it happen again!!!

SOOOO, in conclusion:

TOP 3 Performances tonight

1. David C.
2. Syesha
3. Carly S.

Bottom 3 performances tonight

4. David A.
5. Jason C.
6. Brooke "I'm sorry" White

"3" on the wrong stools tomorrow

1. Brooke W.
2. Jason C.
3. Syesha (should NOT be there!)

GONE

I got it wrong last week "BUT" surely it is Brooke's time to GO!!! Bye, Bye, Brooke!

Love ya'll....Jonespere4u....out!!!!

Hello people..if you are all going to complain about how the producers treat the contestants/winner(which they know ahead of time! duh) and how the advertisers make money then why watch the show? I hate that...

Thanks for the interesting update on Brian Dunkleman. I appreciate the effort you put into your blogs and your efforts to keep your readers updated on all things Idol (idle, lol). I simply adore your columns. BTW I watched TMZ last night and it featured two AI related stories. The first was a small update on Danny Noregia - kinda' poking fun at his 15 minutes of fame. The second concerned Carmen Rasmusen (i.e., Rasmusen recently penned a column or gave an interview re: unfairness on American Idol). Apparently Rasmusen has alleged that some Idol contestants (such as Clay Aiken during her season) are given more time with the vocal coach ~ Debra Byrd ~ than other contestants. Hence some receive more prepping and grooming than others. I couldn't find the article on the www. According to TMZ, it appeared in the "Desert News" (or some sort newpaper). Anyways the Carmen Rasmusen story is much along the lines of this one about Brian Dunkleman.

PS: Hello to my pal Jonespere4u. Your overview of last night was 1st rate per usual.
Take care buddy. Hope Jackson's family is doing OK.

Loved the blog about last night and the one above. Thanks LP. You are the best.

13. Danny -
I think Dunkleman would have made a much better host than that phony dweeb Seacrest.

Carmen isn't bitter about 'American Idol'

http://deseretnews.com/article/1,5143,695272555,00.html
______________________________________________
An Excerpt:

"It can't be easy to be an "American Idol" finalist. Attention from the legitimate media is hard enough to accept; gossip on the Internet rises to an entirely different level.
More accurately, gossip on the Internet falls to an entirely different level.

And the attention doesn't end even after you've left the show. Our own Carmen Rasmusen has been the subject of ridiculous and inaccurate Internet chatter as the result of the column she wrote last week for the Deseret News.

"'Idol' Reject Claims, The Show's Rigged!" screams a headline on TMZ.com. The story — accompanied by the most unflattering picture of Rasmusen the folks at TMZ could find — goes on to say that some "American Idol" contestants "aren't even given a fighting chance."

It's great gossip. Attention-grabbing. Juicy.

And the fact that Rasmusen wrote absolutely nothing of that sort didn't stop TMZ from printing the story.

Rasmusen's April 18 column gave us a behind-the-scenes look at how "Idol" works. She wrote of one experience waiting to consult the show's vocal coach while Clay Aiken was being coached.

"I could hear him going over and over his song, dissecting it. Finally, after about 30 minutes, the door opened. It was my turn. I walked in and sang my song about three times before being dismissed. Hardly the personal one-on-one attention Aiken had just received."

TMZ managed to twist this around into "the show's rigged!"

Beyond distorting the facts — or just making things up — came the accusation that Rasmusen is harboring some sort of grudge, that she's bitter about not winning the second season of "American Idol."

That, as TMZ so nicely phrased it, "She went home in sixth place, to lead a life of obscurity and bitterness."

Again, Rasmusen wrote nothing of the sort. Again, never let the truth get in the way of good gossip.

"The only point I was trying to make was that some contestants get more attention than others," said Rasmusen, who — surprise! — was not contacted ...CONTINUED AT THE ABOVE WEBSITE...

Hope you enjoy it LP.

You're the best LP. I read your column about Idol's Webber themed night. It was funny and informative. Thank you as always for a job well done.

Great article Lyndsey. Thanks for all your hard work.

First rate article. Do you ever sleep LP? You work so hard for your readers. Thank you. A lot of us notice it and appreciate it. I adore your work.

I didn't see Brian Dunkleman lately, but I thought it was already pretty fit. LOL. Thank you LP for another fantastic blog. You're the best!

20. Yahoo! Music User -
Thanks for that. I wish more people did that. Also, alas, I took your original comment in #4 to mean an insult to LP. LOL. So I appreciated #6 for clarification. I once asked Yahoo! to remove a quote on a condolscence site that read, "____ serves you right &*^^$$##!"

_____ was a girl who had just lost her dad to cancer. Well, Yahoo! (God love them) took it off but then it looked liked I was saying please remove another - a beautiful and heartfelt post. LOL.
