McPheever Cools Down

Posted Wed Jan 9, 2008 6:18pm PST by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

Man, the axe keeps falling over at American Idol HQ. And Kat's the latest to get the cut.

Perhaps the folks over and BMG/19 Management are trying to clear some room for all the new Idols they will presumably sign to record deals after American Idol's successful seventh season. But whatever the reason for all this recent BMG bloodletting, it's just been confirmed--only a day after the announcement that Idol alums Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard were now free agents--that season 5 finalist Katharine McPhee has also been dropped by BMG.

According to a painfully diplomatic and tight-lipped record label spokesperson, "Katharine McPhee has moved on to support her other entertainment activities."

Really now, how are upcoming Idol contestants supposed to get excited about being on this show, when it's becoming glaringly obvious that winning Idol is no guarantee of ANYTHING anymore?

I honestly don't understand how American Idol is going to maintain its Cinderella-story image of waving their Clive Davis-brandished magic wands and transforming great unknown talents into overnight superstars, when Clive and Simon keep turning their discoveries back into pumpkins.

I'm not the biggest Katpacker around (I'm more of a Soul Patroller myself), but here's hoping Katharine is able to find another glass slipper--aka, another record label--that fits.

Hey Libby, get a life and trash your computer

Wow that is totally retarded!! i mean they can just get a new record deal with another company, but american idol is about giving people an oppurtunity to go for their dreams, its not about crushing peoples dreams!!

It should be about making dreams come true..but lets face it...its about the money...and the ratings...all the finalist on American Idol 5th seasons were awesom..it was a hard decission to make..However I love Taylor Hicks..he obviously didn't fit the typical american idol look..but his soul could sing...I was totally Soul Patrol

I loved Taylor Hicks on america idol,he stood out from the very beginning and i feel like he just needs to keep trying, sing them songs from the heart, because he really is a great singer!

William Hung pretty much sums up my opinion of that show.
[and Libby (#40) sounds like a nut]

I am 100% with JPC. If you can't step up to your current job position you will eventually lose it

All I have to say is..Who cares. Sorry. but I'm a die hard DAUGHTRY fan. When he was voted off I lost it for American Idol and its winners (??) The show has lost it's appeal as far as I'm concerned. DAUGHTRY ROCKS!!!!

48. mom -
Honostly i only like Carry Underwood but i think they all sing really well!

49. mom -
i love DAUGHTRY and theme but they cant sing better than theme!

Is BMG the only game in town?

The way I look at it is, if you can make it on the show and even if you do not win the title, you have come ahead then the rest of the people that did not. Look at the people that did not come in first and they have come though in the music world. Keep rocking Chris Daughtry, I love listening to his music and also a few others. I like watching American Idol and even at some moments while I am watching the show I have tears in my eyes when they get kicked off. It is the reality show that is good for Americans because it is down to earth for the people of our country. I hope it does not end anytime to soon.

they make it sound like they axed her when the truth of the matter is it was probably a "mutual" agreement. Rumor has is that being the American Idol winner is not such a good thing. They OWN you for a year and even though a million dollars sounds grand look at the slave you are to them for that time and the fact that all the royalties you make are theirs!!!! I believe they are much better without BMG and will be successful on their own!!! If not it much more than they had before!

mcphee is pretty as well she can sing, maybe she will act.Rueben I think is too laid back to persue his career.Taylor Hicks should never had won.He is purely lounge acts only!! Do not forget Kelly,Bo,Carrie,Fantasia,Clay & Daughtry are doing well!

AI IS AWSOME. HOWEVER I AGREE WITH MOST... LEAVING IT UP TO US, SOMETIMES THE ONES WHO WIN SHOULDN'T BE SINGING!! LIKE FANTASIA... CAN'T STAND HER! SINCE WHEN DOES SCREAMING OUR HEADS OFF PASS FOR SINGING? BUSINESS IS JUST THAT... BUSINESS. SOMETIMES YOU GET A GREAT JOB AND SOMETIMES WE GET FIRED! THAT'S LIFE, DEAL WITH IT! KATHRINE IS GREAT AND SHE WILL MAKE IT SOME WAY OR ANOTHER! :) BTW CAN'T WAIT UNTIL AI COMES BACK ON NEXT WEEK! MY FAV PART... THE CRAZY AUDITIONS. ROCK ON AI!!!

Problem with Idol is the music they cover on the show is adult contemporary boredom. They need to get a more current sound. As for McPhee, I'm not surprised. The show needs a hit this year or it's in trouble. Daughtry and Underwood are the best to come out of there by far.

Taylor Hicks, He is a good guy, Interesting to watch, For a moment, But American Idol??? I was in disbelief when he won. He really isnt that good of a singer. And he disappeared as fast as he was mad. Case closed.
Taylor Hicks Had his moment. But he was fortunate to get that. Luck was on his side.

57. RENE -
Everyone was mad when Chris D got voted off but as much as I loved him I was happy for him. He was then able to do his own thing (for the most part) no contracts by BMG. If anything he was the biggest winner by not being AI #1 He is much more successful then some of the past #1 winners such as Reuben, Fantasia, Clay A etc. He is in a much better position!!!! Look at Jennifer H and how successful she is. I believe if you have any talent and make the top 10-12 then someone in Hollywood will pick you up. I would much rather be voted off then be crowned AI winner!!!!!

58. RENE -
Oh and as far as more people voting for AI at least our votes counted in that show!!!!! need I say more!!!!

It doesnt hurt my feelings a bit that she was dropped...she was talented...but I also think she was arrougant about her talent...there's a fine line between having a positive attitude about your abilities and being arrougant..and I think she crossed the line many times. Taylor and Reuben were so real...just super down to earth guys..and they always seems so genuine to me...not like Kat..who came off to me as being so phoney...Good luck to all of them thou...

WOW...I can't beleive Katherine got cut. I'm not to shocked about Taylor and Ruben though. We never heard anything from Taylor...and Ruben was a one hit wonder with Sorry 2004...which I must admit was a good song. It just shows that Americas favorites aren't always the winners(Chris and Elliot). But r some winners they gat everything they ever dreamed of (Kelly, Carrie, and Jordin)
