McPheever Cools Down

Posted Wed Jan 9, 2008 6:18pm PST by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

Man, the axe keeps falling over at American Idol HQ. And Kat's the latest to get the cut.

Perhaps the folks over and BMG/19 Management are trying to clear some room for all the new Idols they will presumably sign to record deals after American Idol's successful seventh season. But whatever the reason for all this recent BMG bloodletting, it's just been confirmed--only a day after the announcement that Idol alums Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard were now free agents--that season 5 finalist Katharine McPhee has also been dropped by BMG.

According to a painfully diplomatic and tight-lipped record label spokesperson, "Katharine McPhee has moved on to support her other entertainment activities."

Really now, how are upcoming Idol contestants supposed to get excited about being on this show, when it's becoming glaringly obvious that winning Idol is no guarantee of ANYTHING anymore?

I honestly don't understand how American Idol is going to maintain its Cinderella-story image of waving their Clive Davis-brandished magic wands and transforming great unknown talents into overnight superstars, when Clive and Simon keep turning their discoveries back into pumpkins.

I'm not the biggest Katpacker around (I'm more of a Soul Patroller myself), but here's hoping Katharine is able to find another glass slipper--aka, another record label--that fits.

I don't believe any contestant should sing out of his element for competition. Could many celebrity singers out there now even make it to the top ten based on singing, for example, country if you are a hip hop singer, or vis versa?

American Idol shows record execs who is hot right now which is not who will be hot later. 'Idols' influence has diminished much as the Apprentice. The performers are just playing the game.

Seems to me like all the Wrong people win this contest. Look at the past, for a SINGING contest, you had Latoya London, Melinda Dillon,Eliott Yamin, Jennifer Hudson. Need I go On? These people are Singers. Taylor lost his appeal the minute the show was over and Katherine is every other voice on the radio, nothing special or memorable. Sometimes I wish this show Was rigged so a real singer can win. I think I would want to be a runner up. They seem to be doing great. I Hope this season is better than Last. One more week of stupid people voting for the likes of Sanjaya was enough

I'm not really a big fan of Karherine Mcphee. I'm more of a fan of Chris Daughtry
I'm more worried about Chris Daughtry getting cut, but he's album has sold very successfully and he's had about 3 hit songs that have gresat airplay especcially on STAR 98.7. So I really think that with this great success by Chis Dsughtry I don't think his fans hsve much to worry about. But it is worrysome to me sometimes because now reading this article who knows what can happen in thw music world. In my opinion American Idol needs to be dropped from the FOX network becasue well the contestants not only have to sing live on T.V. before they gp home, they havw to see their faces messed up by a big red X. My point is the Fox netork is just making contestants feel much worse than they did before. By thinking to themself'a OK, NOW WHAT DID I DO WRONG???.

Although entertaining, the problem with American Idol is that America is in charge of choosing the winner. Not everyone is capable of being a record company representative or major talent scout, especially in todays fickle music market. Watching the season with Daughtry & Hicks was a perfect example: after hearing Chris sing several times it was obvious he had the talent required to sell records & establish himself as a worthy addition to the music industry. Taylor, although fun to watch, did not possess these qualities, yet won the competition. A great showman may be fun to watch in a live performance, but in the studio those attributes no longer matter. Americans vote for their favorite based on many things, but without that special talent of great vocals(not just well trained)winning isn't a guarantee of sucess.

No Idol show can beat the 1st one with Justin and Kelly. For the singers that made it to the top 12 every season, kudos to them for their drive to win. Yet, there are more talented singers out there that do not have the time or money to appear on American Idol! Too bad for the real talent out there.

I feel that if you get the job that is great but you still have the responsibility of producing good work to keep the job. So I think its a great thing to cut them so they can make room for people that will produce!

Yeah, no love lost here either for Kathyrn McPhee. Just seemed she was a spoiled child with no zilch personality who's mother taught to sing, sorry. Blogger no.8, it's "Taylor Hicks", not "Swift". I think Simon is outliving his usefulness. You're getting paid Simon, at least put in an effort, you're being "very forgettable" more & more each year. I, who thought you were one bright spot on the show, used to balance out Randy & Paula and their sickening sweetness,at least don't lose your vocabulary and start putting on a show again will you? You're boring me, honestly, and I'm trying to still like you!
