Kristy Lee Cook Extends Her 15 Minutes

Posted Tue Jul 1, 2008 11:05am PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

Regular readers of this blog throughout American Idol season 7 know I was never what you'd call a Kristy Lee Cook fan. Or even a Kristy Lee Cook tolerator. But as an intrepid and (ahem) impartial music journalist of the highest and most respectable order, I feel obligated to report the following:

KLC has landed a record deal, y'all.

Ironically, it seems Kristy has won back what she already had: a contract with Arista Nashville.

See, as widely reported by Vote For The Worst et al, Kristy was originally signed to Arista Nashville in 1999 (see press-release photo at right), but she got dropped before she ever released an album.

She did, however, release this low-budget video, which troublingly earned her the nickname "KKKristy" due to its unfortunately un-PC set dressing:

Hopefully now that Kristy is back on Arista with a presumably bigger (read: Carrie Underwood-esque) budget, whoever directs her next video will wisely refrain from using Confederate flags as props.

Amusingly, though, KLC's upcoming single (out August 11) will be titled "15 Minutes Of Shame." Maybe the girl's actually got a good sense of humor after all.

And maybe now Kristy can finally buy back her horse.

And hey...maybe this news indicates that Carly Hennessy-Smithson will get back her old record deal with MCA, too! Stay tuned.

Gee, nothing like unbiased article writing. The Confederate flag isn't a racist symbol. thanks. and the KKK thing was uncalled for, both on boards and in this article.

KLC does need to work on her energy and stage presence, but I wish her the best of luck.

Loved it! So what if a framed conferderate flag was in one shot, it was protarying his family heritage and background as soilders thorughout history. People really need to not worry so much about what is politically correct, and just go with it. The girl has a winning counrty voice, and yes I still hope she gets her horse back Go Kristy!

The video was very bad.

It looked like a really bad home movie. And I am wondering if she can stand her head up straight. She is constantly leaning it to one side or the other. Bad song too.

Yeah, the Confederate battle flag is a symbol of racism, the world is flat, and the moon is made of green cheese. The small flag in this video is on a wall above a collection of service medals. Its use was clearly indicative of military service. Is is disgusting that we have become so hopelessly PC that a tiny flag in a video to a song totally unrelated to history, racial views, or an ancient war is even mentioned, let alone harped on and used to spread a stupid lie about a heretofore unknown artist earning a hateful nickname.
This Ms. Parker's ignorance is overshadowed only by her grossly immature desire to wave her arms and draw attention to herself for being oh-so-sensitive to the placement of wall decor the ignorant masses deem offensive.

If were to go back in the former blogs, this is something I predicted, from about the 2nd or 3rd week of Idol. Kristi may not have a knockout voice, but she is highly marketable. She is on par with Ms. Pickler, with perhaps a different sound. Look what happened with Julianne Hough, DWTS winner, and now a country music hit. She may be one the best to come along in some time. There again, it takes talent in singing, writing, and the music.

Maybe they can go back and take all the Malcom X hats off the rappers back a few years back that offended other people and we can then worry about the flag in this video. Gimme a break, its the south and I would seriously doubt that this video will be in high rotation on BET anytime soon to offend anyone.

kudos to kristy. i bought single on yahoo, she is an amazing singer. i think the girl has talent & will someday be as big as REBA. here is my take on country & american idol. you know we don't all like the same style of music that is the beauty of DIFFERENT types of music. i don't much care for mixing it(example:country crossroads) personally i am very closed minded when it comes to music. i have to have my country music.my hat grows off to those folks who remain true to themselves. as far as the confederate flag on her video(big freak'n deal)it's pride not prejudice!!!

I would love to smell her feet!!!

I have never bloged before. But I have to say when I heard Kristy sing on Idol, even though she wasn't hiting all the notes on thoes hip hop and Beatle songs, I could tell right away she would get picked up by someone who knows talent. I believe we are in for a nice treat come August.

I don't even know who the heck she is!!!

loved it! good luck!!

I sure liked KLC from the date she auditioned and felt something right about her. To me anyone that makes the top 10 is a winner. I wish her the best and hope that if she is serious about her music career that her engagment is put on hold.
GOOD LUCK KRISTY!!!

Actually, I voted all the way for DC, but I never thought KLC was too bad at all. There were times when she was downright very good. I think, with the right direction, she'll do just fine. And, PS: hope she DOES get her horse back!

Actually, I voted all the way for DC, but I never thought KLC was too bad at all. I like a variety of music, including country. Maybe because she wasn't strutting around with 7'' heels on while every inch of her hung out, or she wasn't swearing in her lyrics, there were some who didn't find her appealing. There were times when I thought she was downright very good. She's fresh, young, appealing and pretty. I think, with the right direction, she'll do just fine. And, PS: hope she DOES get her horse back!

She's so fine who cares if she's a no talent trollop!
