Kristy Lee Cook Extends Her 15 Minutes

Posted Tue Jul 1, 2008 11:05am PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

Regular readers of this blog throughout American Idol season 7 know I was never what you'd call a Kristy Lee Cook fan. Or even a Kristy Lee Cook tolerator. But as an intrepid and (ahem) impartial music journalist of the highest and most respectable order, I feel obligated to report the following:

KLC has landed a record deal, y'all.

Ironically, it seems Kristy has won back what she already had: a contract with Arista Nashville.

See, as widely reported by Vote For The Worst et al, Kristy was originally signed to Arista Nashville in 1999 (see press-release photo at right), but she got dropped before she ever released an album.

She did, however, release this low-budget video, which troublingly earned her the nickname "KKKristy" due to its unfortunately un-PC set dressing:

Hopefully now that Kristy is back on Arista with a presumably bigger (read: Carrie Underwood-esque) budget, whoever directs her next video will wisely refrain from using Confederate flags as props.

Amusingly, though, KLC's upcoming single (out August 11) will be titled "15 Minutes Of Shame." Maybe the girl's actually got a good sense of humor after all.

And maybe now Kristy can finally buy back her horse.

And hey...maybe this news indicates that Carly Hennessy-Smithson will get back her old record deal with MCA, too! Stay tuned.

Simply put, Kristy was tragically born without a personality.

I hated watching her on AI. She managed to butcher more than half of the songs she performed, whether by choosing a bad arrangement, or destroying all emotion with her dead expressions.

Yes, her singing did get better over time, but honestly, she is nothing new. There is nothing striking about her voice. She sounds like a mixture between Carrie Underwood and LeAnn Rimes, minus the mad belting power. And personality. And passion. Ahem.

Beautiful, yes!
Vocally gifted, debatable.

Hey! she lasted a long time. Not good for that competion SORRY

Wow... that's harsh about the confederate flag remark in the original post... If that flag is offending then people need to retake history. I suppose they didn't see the medals and such on the wall by the confederate flag. Ugh. As for the song, eh i'm on the fence. It was a pretty balad, which she can sing. However I do feel on more upbeat songs she may fall apart. I guess time will tell. Can't wait to hear what she comes out with.

I just couldn't stand this girl's singing! OMG she sounded horrible! And she knows it too, that's why during their first week of trials in Hollywood, she went and sang the same song (Amazing Grace)! That was the only time she sounded decent. Other than that, she should just sit down and look pretty!

Contestants on American Idol need to be screened, I guess. Just to make sure they are bonafide amateurs, who have NEVER had a record contract before. KLC isn't the first, and probably isn't the last contestant that Idol will put out that's already lost or otherwise screwed up their shot already. If they can get media attention without Idol, don't put them on. Give the chance to real people. Oh, and while you're at it, fire Paula Abdul. She clearly appeared intoxicated. That was not mere confusion.

ok - so does this mean she'll get her horse back?
Not a fan of KL or country music.

I think that the video was done very tastefully. The flag on the wall in the bedroom...you are making something bigger than it is. It IS a part of the American History about the Civil War. Comments should NOT be made about "KKKristy". That is very inappropriate!

For Kristy, I did vote for you on American Idol. Just never forget to keep GOD FIRST in all things! Do not lose sight of this. The music industry can be a hard place to be in....the temptations can be there, but stay focused on your amazing talent that GOD has given to you! Blessings!

Give the girl a chance she is really not that bad of a singer and she is so beautiful inside and out.

I love KLC. In fact, I would to a step further and say I would even like to make love with KLC. She is so sweet and adorable. I could just eat her up! I bet she tastes soooo sweet, as sweet as her music. I would love to experience her unique oral talents and have her sing a 'son' just for me :). Good luck KLC. You are sooo freakin hot!

Ooooooooohhhhhhhhh, KLC, KLC, KLC who cares. If she had talent beyond a pretty face she'd be somewhere else. Apparently, she doesn't. But good looks do seems to equal talent in this wrold we live in now. It doen't really help short, fat ugly people like me, bit it does give me an excuse to be angry all of the time, so that seems like a fair trade. Good luck KLC and fans...you'll need it. Oh sorry. Ya'll are going to need it opening truck stops in Kentucky.

That is the most embarrassing thing I have ever seen. I was looking over my should making sure no one saw me. I hate her almost as much as Rachael Ray. I would like to see both of them thrown out of a plane with a faulty parachute.
