Fresh "Air": Rissi Palmer Breathes Life Into A Jordin Sparks Song

Posted Tue Jul 29, 2008 1:31pm PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

"No Air" was the one breath of fresh air on Jordin Sparks's debut album for me. Although I've never doubted that the season 6 AmIdol winner has a good set of pipes, I have for the most part been disappointed with the safe, snoozy post-show material's she's released.

The one exception has been "No Air," which I actually think is one of the best pop singles of 2008. I also think it's probably what saved Jordin from a sad, one-album-then-dropped, Taylor Hicks-like fate. Of course, it didn't hurt matters that her unstoppable and unfloppable labelmate Chris Brown appeared on the song, but even without his input, a good song is a good song is a good song.

Case in point: The new "No Air" cover by rising Nashville star Rissi Palmer. It's a country version, and Chris Brown is nowhere to be found on it, and it's still just as great.

Or is it? Some people might even say Rissi's version is better. Compare and contrast the remake and the original here, and you decide:

I like Jordin's until Rissi's came out. There is just something about Rissi's voice that is so pure in all of her songs.

I love Rissi's version better, she rocks it!

Prefer Rissi's video and Jordan's version. Rissi is so easy on the eyes. Wouldn't buy either. Jordan's is too vanilla and most C/W makes my head hurt.

Rissi For sure.. she's different.. we need something a lil more differnt in the music industry.. And she is it!!!!!!!!!!

HANDS DOWN RISSI'S IS SO MUCH BETTER....VERY PURE AND MUCH MORE FEELING ABOUT IT. IT'S LIKE YOU BELIEVE HER WHEN YOU HEAR IT AND JORDIN SPARK'S VERSION IS JUST ANOTHER "JAM" YOU CAN LISTEN TO. GO RISSI!!!!!!

I'm a big Rissi fan so I will definatly have to say her! I think she brings something a little different and more mature to the song. Her voice.....MUCH better!

It might surprise some but many in Country have never heard Sparks' version and Rissi's might be a breath of fresh air to many. For those of us that listen to all types of music including pop and country we know them both. With that being said I have to say that both versions are great and have a place in music.

I first noticed Jordin's version on SYTYCD? when Tabitha and Napoleon choreographed a great routine to the song.

I will say that Rissi's version is the version I play strictly for her voice and it's much more lively than Jordin's which sparks me as flat. Rissi did a great job and did breathe some life into it. And I'm sure it'll hit the Top Ten on the Country Boards.

However, the real winners are Thomas, Griggs and Mason. They wrote the song and are the ones getting PAID.

I'm a big Rissi fan anyway, but I listened to both versions, and I much prefer hers to Jordin's. I love her voice. She is a wonderful singer, and I like what she did with the video. Keep up the great work, Rissi!

38. Lorre -
Rissi Palmer is by far the better of the two! Duet or no, she has the better voice!

39. Pam -
I love Rissi's Version over Jordin's but I like the Duet.

Rissi is totally provocative in her new video. She looks even better than her "Country Girl" Debut

Rissi is a sweet women and did a better job on "NO Air". She stripped away the poppy beat added the violin and flat out sang the song better. She has a warble in her voice that is hypnotizing.
