Fresh "Air": Rissi Palmer Breathes Life Into A Jordin Sparks Song

Posted Tue Jul 29, 2008 1:31pm PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

"No Air" was the one breath of fresh air on Jordin Sparks's debut album for me. Although I've never doubted that the season 6 AmIdol winner has a good set of pipes, I have for the most part been disappointed with the safe, snoozy post-show material's she's released.

The one exception has been "No Air," which I actually think is one of the best pop singles of 2008. I also think it's probably what saved Jordin from a sad, one-album-then-dropped, Taylor Hicks-like fate. Of course, it didn't hurt matters that her unstoppable and unfloppable labelmate Chris Brown appeared on the song, but even without his input, a good song is a good song is a good song.

Case in point: The new "No Air" cover by rising Nashville star Rissi Palmer. It's a country version, and Chris Brown is nowhere to be found on it, and it's still just as great.

Or is it? Some people might even say Rissi's version is better. Compare and contrast the remake and the original here, and you decide:

Rissi brings some unique qualities to her performance with her country style and Georgia drawl. Hearing her sing it, ones almost concludes that the song is better performed in her genre. Rissi, hands down.

Uh...no contest. Rissi is the best!!! Hands down! No doubt! Amazing! Love her!

I like this version but I love the 1st version.
I'll listen to them both :-

duh. jordin's is much better. there's no emotion in the singing.

Contextually they both work - listening to the words it could work as a solo or a duet. That being said, I like the remake. I've liked it since the first time I heard it on the radio. Go Rissi!

86. Diddy -
Rissi's version is by far better. I like it better not sung as a duet.

Both are nice but Rissi's version is way better.

I prefer Rissi's version.

whatever the point is the "semioriginal "can't be better than the originali.e jordin sparks& chris brown's release still remains the bomb

I think Rissi Palmer did a great job with this song; however, I still like the original version better.

jordin sparks .

Rissi is the best. GO RISSI!!!!!!!

It's about the same for me.

i think that rissi stays at one tempo for most of the song so for me it wasnt all that great.

I think the dynamics of having a male and female in this song is what makes the original better - I think real duets are so much more powerful. Still, Rissi's cover is great. What a beautiful voice!

Rissi Palmer's version is so better! Her version of No Air has the light brezzy felli gthat Jordin Spark's was missing. I personaly disliked Jordins version fer the at exact reason. Rissi Palmer is amazing! Her song Country girl is so awesomee! I almost got to see her in concert in at North Haverhill Fair in NH, but I had other planss. :(

Jordin is the best!

The original is definitely way better. She didn't out sing Jordin Sparks and the arrangement is not that different at all. Try again.

i like the one with jordin and chris brown like in that song u can feel and see how they feel like how they sing to each other is so cuter u can feel the power or emtion in that song between jordin and chris But dont get me wrong Rissi has a really good voice

They are the same but just different styles! No Air is still definantly Jordins though!
