Sanjaya Comes At You Fast

Posted Thu Aug 21, 2008 9:22am PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

Oh, Sanjaya Malakar, I've missed you so. Your creative hairdos that belong more on Shear Genius than onĀ American Idol, the way you can destroy a perfectly good Kinks song like nobody else, your ability to make little Ashley Ferl cry on cue...WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?

The answer is, apparently Sanj has been shooting his own Kevin Federline-esque "Life Comes At You Fast" commercial for Nationwide Insurance. Except his commercial is waaay better than K-Fed's. He's wearing a fauxhawk! And trying to act! And singing! Kind of!

Somewhere out there in TV Land, Ashley Ferl is crying next to her plasma screen:

Welcome back, Sanjaya. Now all I need is for Danny Noriega to get his own Nationwide ad and I'll be weeping tears of joy, too...

the great thing about America is that you really don't have to have any real talent... just a gimmic and milk it for all that it is worth...

Oh my God!! Like, are you kidding me? To my ears, he sounds worse than when he was Idol.I mean, if he makes a go of this commercial, all the better for him. That being said, he's being used as a gimmick to sell insurance, just as woman have been used to sell cars, cigarettes, etc. I don't know whhat the money is. What I do know is that if it were me, I'd forever be humiliated. He's trying to leave a mark for himself, but is this really the way he wants to do it? I wonder if he has any self respect? Admittedly, he's cute, which is what got him so far on Idol. Many really good singers were eliminated due to this.

The odd thing with all of this is that his "singing/acting" in this ridiculous commercial will be remembered. Can't remember if there was a name to the insurance company. Still, it will be a topic of conversation around that "stupid commercial" and we'll remember that at the end, it was to seel insurance. Now that's pretty hard to forget. The crazier a commerical is, the more we remember it.

In jest or not, I truly don't believe this is a good move for Sanjaya-not personally, not for whatever career he goes into, and certainly not for a chance to be taken at all seriously as a young adult. I clearly don't know him,yet by doing things like this commercial, he appears a lot younger than his age. I doubt anyone would want to buy anything from a sales rep who acts like Sanjaya. I wouldn't have an ounce of trust or faith in his abilities or capabilities. He's playing at life as if it's a game. I believe he has made a very poor choice for himself. I hope for his sake that he comes out of this all right.

Talking from experience, mocking oneself is very demeaning and helps nothing in the long run.

I'm not a fan of Sanjaya, but for those who are so critical on him. you folks are just been blinded by all those bitter criticism from the media, that is simply not used to and ready for the idea of an Asian (especially Asian male) singer made it on national TV. I mean he's definitely not the best singer with the style we are used to, but he sings in his own style with a unique twist. Why can't we just loosen up and enjoy the difference / variety that we're so fortunate to have. If we're only willing to accept the kinds of singers that we're already used to (i.e. the kinds of singers our mainstream music industry feeds us on), it will be a boring world.

As for the commercial itself, I think it's creative, and kind of funny ( I admit it's also kind of silly. But it's a commercial; what's wrong with being silly?) Being a foreign film lover, I also think it will be the first commercial that catches my attention if played alongside with other "mainstream" kind of commercials at the same time.

Will I switch to Nationwide? Well, I mostly fly, instead of drive. Sorry Sanjaya.

Keep up the good work!

You have to admit Sanjaya's determination is to be admired. Although, I don't think his singing skills are great his sense of humor sure is. Sanjaya I think you should look more towards comedy! Way to go Sanyaya!!!! Keep it up!!!

Stupid!

I don't know how he ever made it on AI, i think it must have been pity. He can't sing, and he sure as heck can't act. Thank god for HD PVR cause i won't have to see that commercial again!

The comercial was stupid enough to be funny.
And it will be interesting to see where he goes from here.

Hey if they are looking for people with no talent.
I have just the person for them.
My brother,33 years old,has moved back home for like the 4 or fifth time.No woman wants him,.He thinks he is all that and he needs to be put on tv,,so they can give him some money to move far away from the family that is sick of him.
Him and that Sanjaya guy would be perfect together,,NO ONE CAN STAND EITHER OF THEM.
