Da Brat Headed To Da Slammer

Well, it's just been announced that Da Brat--old-skool rap icon, BFF of Mariah Carey, lone witness to the Mariah/Nick nuptials, and star of such reality gems as The Surreal Life, Celebrity Fit Club, and Celebrity Rap Superstar--will spend the next three years imprisoned not in a Surreal Life McMansion with Chyna Doll and Adrianne Curry or in a fitness bootcamp with Dustin Diamond, but in an actual prison.

Not sure which is worse, reallly...

In all seriousness, Da Brat's bratty ways have finally been punished, after she allegedly used the broken end of a rum bottle to slash the face of a waitress/nemesis at Jermaine Dupri's Studio 72 nightclub in Georgia. Brat was sentenced today by an Atlanta judge on charges of felony aggravated assault.

This isn't the first time Da Brat's been in trouble with da law...but really, any glimpse of some of her hot-headed scenes in past reality shows would have given the prosecution in this particular case all the ammo they needed to secure a conviction. See here:

This is a good example of why we shouldn't look to idols-- they can't offer us any salvation and can't even save themselves. Maybe now she'll accept that free home/cell bible study from Jehovah's Witnesses!

Da Brat did take responsibility. If you bother to read the actual news article (instead of getting all your facts from biased blogs) you would know that she pleaded guilty to aggravated assault. In addition to 3 yrs, she also gets 7 yrs probation as well as 200 hrs community service AND mandated anger management classes. I'm not a fan of hers, though I do think her name is more recognizable than the ex-Go Go. The Falcons cheerleader/waitress got up in her face and Da Brat took care of it gansta style. She's accepted the consequences of her actions and is doing the time. At least she's not whining in the press how misunderstood she is. I watched the Surreal Life season that she was on, and when push came to shove, she had her girlfriend's (Chyna Doll) back. That says alot about her character. She is also historically the first successful female rap artist. She's made some heavy mistakes, but so did Elvis. Successful people are all too often messed up and need help. I hope she gets it.

Shelby M's got a point. There are others out there who have a greater negative impact on society. I am still thinking 'Da Brat' and others like her make it possible. Folks are distracted looking at that simple minded nonsense instead of paying attention to what's real. Then we chant, 'keep it real'. Turn off the TV.

I owned a record company in seattle and tried like h*ll to put out rappers with good images, no talking about *ithes, hoes, thugging, ganging, only wanted positive roll models, well guess what, nobody wanted to hear it. So I hope the industry takes note, this is not the type of publicity rappers really should have, all that money and still can't act like a normal human and decent to others, I am glad to see da brat go to jail, she deserves to lose everything she owns for restitution. Do you want to make money honestly or go to jail. And what kind of a roll model is she, a really *hitty one. Rot there da brat, and hopefully you won't get any special treatment for being on tv.
Will Smith is one of the good guys, and an excellent role model for our youth, somebody has to show them the way. Way to go Will and family.
