Jordin Sparks: "Not Everyone Wants To Be A Slut!"

Posted Mon Sep 8, 2008 4:50pm PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Reality Rocks

Some people might say host Russell Brand went too far on last night's MTV Video Music Awards, with his constant comments about the Jonas Brothers' famous vow of chastity.

And some people were especially irked by Russell's ridicule of theĀ innocentĀ Jonases' purity rings. America's sweetheart, Jordin Sparks, was possibly the most irked of all. So she felt the need to say something, in what was one of the VMAs' very few unscripted moments:

Now, while I respect Jordin for having an opinion, sticking to her beliefs, and daring to stray from the teleprompter...I do think she went a little too far here. Was she saying that everyone who has premarital sex is a "slut"? Isn't that a tad extreme?

I wonder how single mom and fellow Idol Fantasia would feel about Jordin's judgmental remark.

Oh come on...I don't think she meant it that way! I agree with her. Someone needed to stick up for the Jonas Brothers. They are setting a good example for MY children, unlike Paris and all of the others....

2. Jessie -
Oh shut up! Why the crap are you reigning down down on Jordin! Seriously, I'm pretty sure that her comment was only directed toward Russel Brand for the fact that he is an infamous nymphomaniac and clearly looked down upon anyone who was not. I became a fan of Jordin's merely because she was the only one with enough backbone to stand up and say something! So don't go turning her courageous act into something that makes her out to be anything less than what she is, a wonderful and fantastic role model with real morals.

Why must everyone have pre-marital sex? and how many people do you know that will only have pre-marital sex with one person? Now what should she have called people that sleep around. Heres a scarry fact STD's could be wiped out in a generation if everyone stayed faithful to that one special person.

I understand her point but her language was too harsh. If you choose to have sex before marriage it does not automatically mean you are a "slut". Jordan could have said "Not everyone wants ro have sex before marriage" she didn't have to say slut. What if someone who'd had premartial sex saw this and felt crappy about themselves because they felt condemned by someone they admire?

I was so happy with Jordin Sparks. It's nice to see someone in the music industry who's not afraid to have a sense of decency and morals. And I'm glad she ripped Brand for making fun of chastity. What he did was NOT cool. Not everyone might be a slut, but at least she's got morals. Why in the world do you say that JORDIN was judgemental??? Russell Brand was by far the rudest and judgemental person I have ever seen on TV!!!

russel brand is a freakin idiot! hes just jealous that the jonas brothers are more famous than him! that idiot just wants americas attention! thank gosh jordin stood up for them! russel if you have a problem with my message, you can email me back and we will have a little chat and find out whos stronger! jonas brothers rock! take that russel brat!

Oh no, a comedian made a joke...

RUN FOR THE HILLS

IT MIGHT CHANGE SOCIETY AS WE KNOW IT

8. DUDE -
I AM A SLUT.

Honestly, mega kudos to Jordon Sparks. I do think that he took it way too far. I mean whats wrong with waiting till your married?? Yes I do get that he was making a joke...but after the second and third remark it got old real fast.

I guess I am a slut in her eyes....
I do think speaking your mind is a good thing.

Meanwhile Britney gets handed a bunch of trumped up awards to make up for the embarassment of last year, the Host is a bad imitation of Capt. Jack Sparrow, and all the Acts are lypsyncing, but Jordan Sparks one unscripted moment was what you complain about.

12. Michael -
Good for Jordin Sparks! I don't listen to her music, but she was very courageous in what she said. Why didn't you single out that disgusting british comedian for ridicule? Seems like the only time "tolerant thinking and speaking" is tolerated is when you tow the party line, i.e., "everyone has pre-marital sex." Being chaste doesn't make you weird. Would Jordin have been condemned if she stood up in favor of indiscriminate sex? I doubt it.

13. Miss R. -
I gotta go with Jordin on this one....she's in the entertainment industry, they're not exactly known for their chastity, or for even trying to appear anything such. Good for her for sticking up for the Jonas Brothers.

Dear Lindsey,

"I wonder how single mom and fellow Idol Fantasia would feel about Jordin's judgmental remark"

I think, single mom and fellow Idol Fantasia would feel the exact same way (except the other way around) as the Jonas Brothers did when their view of sex is being ridiculed by Russel Brand. At the very least, Jordin Sparks was trying to stand for something she believes in, whereas Russel Brand was just trying to be funny and completely failed.

Russel Brand started the game & Jordin Sparks was the only one who had guts to play her card.

I think she won, because Russel Brand later constructed a gentler remark for Jonas Brothers.

Well okay, Jordin Sparks won & Lusser..i mean Russel Brand lost...

I have gained so much respect for Jordin Sparks. I am so proud of her for having the guts to stand up for what she believes in at the risk of being ridiculed by all of Hollywood. It's one thing for Russell Brand to make a joke about the Jonas Brothers being virgins...haha, no big deal. But he kept harping on it, and to make things worse after the Jonas Bros. performed, they conveniently went to commercial with Katy Perry singing "Like A Virgin". MTV should be ashamed. I think Jordin's language was just fine....it wouldn't have made her point if she had been timid. And she was obviously upset, so she was speaking out of emotion.

I am so glad to hear there are still young stars out there that have morals and actually deserve to be role models.

Its clear you're pretty much in the minority.here. Come on. Jordin Sparks? Are you serious? Because her standing up for good ol' virtues might upset Fantasia? You seriously need to rethink this one.

18. Yahoo! Music User -
Jordin Sparks needs to learn not to overreact to a joke that had nothing to do with her. While I fully support an individual's ability to choose whether or not to have pre-marital sex, I don't think insulting someone for making a choice (say calling them a slut) is appropriate or makes her look like the "good one" in this picture.

Calm down sweetie - learn to take a joke and not have an insulting comeback, it makes you look small.

Who cares what this Manufactured "iDOL" say's! Any parent sitting in the room of denial regarding their children's eventual sexuality is an egotistical idiot anyway! Parents who agree with nonsense have their silly heads in the sand. Sex is apart of Natural Human Development and the Jona's Brother's are an unatural, made in a lab, boy band. I bet the farm that in next few years one of them will come out Homosexual and then what will people have to say about those Hypocrital Rings? People become parents and get amnesia about what is was like to be a developing human being. Grow Up Already!

20. Kee -
i think she totallly over did that one. he was being funny, its the vmas for goodness sake, she should be happy that was the only thing she had to encounter that night.
