Song of the Day: The Hold Steady, "Sequestered in Memphis"
These Brooklyn bar-rockers bank their new single on a sweaty groove and E-Street sax, and toss in a shout-along chorus that’s repeated in a hand-clap-laden breakdown near the end – just in case it wasn’t already stuck in your head. Frontman Craig Finn sings with a weary, cracked voice about fooling around with a desperate Memphis girl: they don’t go back to her place, they go to “some place where she cat-sits.” But the melody is fist-pumpingly rousing; here’s hoping commercial rock radio gives it a chance.
