The Worst Album Titles Of All Time

Posted Wed Apr 15, 2009 1:02pm PDT by David Marchese in The Spin Blog

Big Whiskey And The Groogrux King, the title of the forthcoming Dave Matthews Band album, is reportedly a tribute to the group's recently deceased saxophonist LeRoi Moore. It's also a one of the weirdest names for a record I've ever heard. But does it outdo the titular oddities below? Can you think of some stranger, goofier, just plain worse album titles? Share your feedback in the comments section.

1. Metallica, Cunning Stunts: Okay, this is a concert video, but I'm including it anyway. Swap the first two letters of the words in the title and see what happens. Stay classy, Metallica.

2. Joe Satriani, Professor Satchafunkilus And The Musterion Of Rock: I would like this title much more if there were proof that anyone has at any point in time actually called the guitar virtuoso "Professor Satchafunkilus."

3. John Oates, Phunk Shui: Three things that haven't dated terribly well: Oates, feng shui, and using "ph" for "f."

4. Limp Bizkit, Chocolate Starfish And The Hot Dog Flavored Water: Chocolate and starfish are nice--except when they're combined as a euphemism for a certain, typically unseen, part of the human anatomy.

5. Barenaked Ladies, Born On A Pirate Ship: An old schoolyard gag: Say this title while using your index fingers to pull your lips apart. It'll sound like you're saying you were born on a pile of...

6. Van Halen, For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge: Acronym alert.

7. REO Speedwagon, You Can Tune A Piano But You Can't Tuna Fish: Technically true.

8. Ministry, Dark Side Of The Spoon: This sounds like it will be a tribute to Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon played entirely on the spoons. I don't think that was the intention.

9. Blink 182, Take Off Your Pants And Jacket: An allusion to masturbation. Get it? Get it?

10. Greg Kihn, Next Of Kihn: I could have gone with Rockihnroll. Or Kihntinued. Or Kihnspiracy, Kihntagious, Citizen Kihn. Then there's Kihn Of Hearts.

People might call him "Satchafunkilus" if they could only pronounce it.

10. Eric -
The Van Halen album title is exactly what that F-word does mean and stand for; the band stated in interviews that they looked it up during the recording of that album.

11. redspice -
F.U.C.K. doesn't stand for anything. You are wrong and so was Van Hagar.

12. Chris -
god this is terrible

13. Drillerman6913 -
how about bootsauce's 'sleeping bootie'?

14. PCW -
The acronym of that Van Halen album title DOES mean what it stands for. If you deny it, redspice, then you're the one who's wrong.

I thought NOFX's "Heavy Petting Zoo" would make the list...
