Buzz Log: The Most Memorable Moments From The Michael Jackson Memorial

Posted Tue Jul 7, 2009 2:06pm PDT by Michael Krumboltz in Stop The Presses!

Below are several of the biggest moments from Michael Jackson's memorial. Some are light-hearted, some are heart-breaking, but all are memorable.

Brooke Shields, a very good friend of Jackson's, shared some of her favorite memories. Ms. Shields choked up a bit at the end of her speech, giving a voice to many in the audience and at home who must have felt the same way.

The Reverend Al Sharpton credited Jackson with demolishing racial barriers. Sharpton also called on fans to not focus on the scars of Jackson's career, but to focus on the journey. To Jackson's kids he said: "There wasn't nothing strange about your daddy."

Magic Johnson's humorous story about how he was shocked to discover that a huge star like Michael Jackson enjoyed Kentucky Fried Chicken gave fans an insider's glimpse into an unknowable icon.

With all the star-power in the room, it was less expected that a 12-year-old from the U.K. would make a huge impression at the memorial, but Shaheen Jafargholi's performance of the Jackson 5's "Who's Loving You" inspired a raucous round of applause.

Jennifer Hudson is no stranger to tragedy. Perhaps that's why her performance of "Will You Be There" came across as one of the memorial's most special moments.

Michael's brother Jermaine Jackson performed MJ's favorite song: "Smile." The lyrics were especially poignant: "Smile, what's the use of crying/You'll find that life is still worthwhile/If you just smile."

Perhaps the most touching moment came at the very end of the memorial when Michael's daughter, Paris, expressed her love for her late father.

U know, its a shame when ignorant people leave ignorant messages. Despite whatever Micheal went through whether he's guilty or not, we need to respect him for the music he brought to us and how much he has impacted lives throughout the nation. Thats why he had such a great turnout. America is celebrating what he has accomplished and shutting out what ever drama was going on in his life . RESPECT THAT. MICHEAL JACKSON WILL BE MISSED. BELIEVE THAT. R.I.P KING OF POP

Dan first thing is first despite the kind of things we was accused of in which I think was falsely and that the parents and chioldren of the past just wanted to cash in make a quick buck no matter who that may have hurt. Granted I am not a fan but when I was younger I enjoyed his music...that is what this is about...he was a mastermind behind music and the song he created always made an impact somewhere. And Just like the reveren said he helpe break down racial barrieirs. So remember that this is not about this things he was so called accused of but rather how hetook music to a whole new level and this is comming from someone that is not a bif fan what so ever. RIP MJ your music will be remebered for all times.

Everything about Michael jackson was great when he was on this earth & the memorial of his passing was done in great taste too. He was taken away from us way too early. we have not only lost a great entertainer, but a big part of our life has been taken away from us.He will surely be missed....

Although I wasn't a huge fan of Michael Jackson, I'm glad to see how nice his memorial was. I think it's always sad to see someone pass and I know he's resting in peace in heaven.

I am so sick of people calling him an 'accused child molester'. Accused and proven guilty are two different things. Hell, Mr. Dan I could accuse you of being a child molester ( and if I thought I could get some $ of you, I would). So shut the hell up.

112. Yahoo! Music User -
You said it, Mr. Dan.
Also: everyone dies. Yes, that includes MJ.

113. Debra -
no matter what you feel, his music will always be his legacy. His talent cannot be measured by anyone today. God bless his children and his family and may he now rest in peace.

Mr Dan go to hell you hater, the b.s. was all about money. If he were a child molester there would have been a hell of alot more that 2 complaints over 30 years. Get a clue and show some respect dumb ass.

115. Donna -
I didn't know him and his private life is none of my business. But the music belonged to all of us. I wish to remember him in that way. Besides, the world does not judge him and the lord does. It is in his hands now. Besides, He who has no sin cast the first stone. I didn't think so. rip

116. Muschi -
Mr. Dan: You are an idiot! He was aquitted twice! If someone accuses you of something are you automatically guilty?
Michael is and always has been innocent. DEAL WITH IT!

117. Yahoo! Music User -
Michael Jackson is a child molester only to those 12 year olds who were raised by the Internet.. Those old enough, or atleast insightful enough, understand that MJ was a true genius.

118. truthful -
I cried through most of the service.....black funeral through and through....it's a testament to his life...with all the allegations and accusations ....still so much love given. Rev. Sharpton was right....how the world can put one through so much. rip MJ

119. kate -

120. Ed -

You will be missed God Bless.

Pinetop Perkins' 80-year career still going

AP
Fri Nov 27, 2009 4:03am PST

AP - Noisy crowds in smoky bars don't bother 96-year-old bluesman Pinetop Perkins. It's all part of his job. Most nights, after he snuffs out his menthol cigarette, Perkins slides onto the piano bench in some club and … More »
