Buzz Log: The Most Memorable Moments From The Michael Jackson Memorial

Posted Tue Jul 7, 2009 2:06pm PDT by Michael Krumboltz in Stop The Presses!

Below are several of the biggest moments from Michael Jackson's memorial. Some are light-hearted, some are heart-breaking, but all are memorable.

Brooke Shields, a very good friend of Jackson's, shared some of her favorite memories. Ms. Shields choked up a bit at the end of her speech, giving a voice to many in the audience and at home who must have felt the same way.

The Reverend Al Sharpton credited Jackson with demolishing racial barriers. Sharpton also called on fans to not focus on the scars of Jackson's career, but to focus on the journey. To Jackson's kids he said: "There wasn't nothing strange about your daddy."

Magic Johnson's humorous story about how he was shocked to discover that a huge star like Michael Jackson enjoyed Kentucky Fried Chicken gave fans an insider's glimpse into an unknowable icon.

With all the star-power in the room, it was less expected that a 12-year-old from the U.K. would make a huge impression at the memorial, but Shaheen Jafargholi's performance of the Jackson 5's "Who's Loving You" inspired a raucous round of applause.

Jennifer Hudson is no stranger to tragedy. Perhaps that's why her performance of "Will You Be There" came across as one of the memorial's most special moments.

Michael's brother Jermaine Jackson performed MJ's favorite song: "Smile." The lyrics were especially poignant: "Smile, what's the use of crying/You'll find that life is still worthwhile/If you just smile."

Perhaps the most touching moment came at the very end of the memorial when Michael's daughter, Paris, expressed her love for her late father.

Mr. Dan, He was found Innocent. Don't you think that if infact he were a child molester, due to the millons of children he was around, more than TWO would have come forward. It was always about the money. Let him rest in piece.

Ummm...I think you missed Stevie Wonder's performance! To me that was among the top five!

Paris tore my hear out. So heart-wrenching.

Michael, you will always be remembered for the good.

Mr. Dan----Just for the record in the United States you are innocent until proven guilty. Also, the first boy that he paid off came back and said that he made it all up because his parents told him to. The other boys and their parents just hopped on the band wagon. Money can't buy you freedom if that was the case Madoff would not be serving 150 years and the list goes on. Acquited = not guilty in the eyes of the law.

MJ was extremely talented and he touched the lives of many. He will be missed by me.

As touching as his daughters speach was, and I feel terrible for his kids, how good of a parent could he have been with a $100,000.00 a year drug habit? Please, I'm sure the Nanny's raised his kids and not him. I also agree that as talented as he was, his music should be morned, but not the person who managed to buy his way out of trouble multiple times.

Thank you Michael for all that you've done in your lifetime. We will miss you, but WE WILL NEVER FORGET YOU!!!

Michael Jackson was a lengend, an icon. He will always be in my heart as the greatest singer/dancer alive. I cherish his music and know all of that crazy talk about him ( which I do not believe)is over powered by his greatness.

The world has lost a musical icon. He will always be remembered for his giant talent and for the gentle soul that he was. Rest in peace, Michael.

Everyone knows that MJ was no angel but he was a Dad....he seemed to be his most comfortable around kids; maybe he did molest them but also maybe, just MAYBE, his actions were misconstrued....he was most comfortable around kids; it may have been because he didn't have much of a childhood..he was reliving it around children. Whatever will be will be...just pray for the kids, above everyone else.

Michael Jackson was a excellent entertainer and loved the world. I watched the entire memorial service and am still watching memories from MJ. I cried throughout most of the service as if I knew him. REST IN PEACE my friend.

MJ

I feel like I lost a dear friend today; and I didn't even know you. Your passing is a profound loss to me

I cried like a hysterical baby throughout most of your good-bye, but I lost it when your Paris said "I love you daddy, you were always the best daddy." My dad left me too soon-at age 63, when I was 24, half my life ago. Maybe that is why this hit me so hard.

And, as an attorney here in Los Angeles, I must say something: God bless that that Congresswoman: We are all innocent until PROVEN guilty. He was acquitted folks, let this dear man rest in peace.

Michael-rest in peace. but never stop looking over your children. And, all of us.

Moshe

OK, I got to say this about Jacko...love him or hate him he was a great performer and entertainer that captivated audiences. People failed to acknowledge his other problems he had. They failed to say his demons were this or that. Forget all that and focus on the good stuff? Come on now! Sure, great stuff all around..people forget he slept with children and Neverland ranch and dangled a baby over a balcony, and a whole mess of other problems...reminds me of Ana Nicole Smith...

R.I.P- M.J- you will be missed, when i get off of work i will put one in the air for you.....

Beautiful tribute to MJ.

To "Mr Dan" -- MJ was ACQUITTED -- he was not found guilty of child molestation. I doubt that you were acquainted with Michael Jackson and so you have to basis from which to speak. Fact -- MJ had enormous talent and made a huge impact in music. Can you point to accomplishments such as his in your life?! it's my sincere hope that the family/estate of MJ pursue slander lawsuits against all parties that write comments like yours.

Mr. Dan is not even listening to his own words. Accused, YES.. BUT he was acquitted. In this great country, you are innocent until proven guilty. As far as I'm concerned, growing up a huge fan of his music and his humanitarian work, I KNOW I will see him in heaven!

Paris made me cry too. I haven't gotten to watch it, I've been in doctors appointments all day and have a 2 year old, so unfortunately cartoons come first. But I am online here and saw the video of paris and just teared up.

I do want to say, to people who keep on and keep on about MJ and his 'child molestation' issues....Just drop it. You weren't there to know, and if you were and it did happen, why aren't you in jail? Just leave it alone. We all know about all of that, why keep throwing it up, especially now when people are trying to grieve over someone more extraordinary than you. I don't understand the negativity. It's obnoxious, and no one wants to hear it.....

i didnt rly like jackson but i somehow miss him he really will be missed

MR Dan ~ I hope you realize that One of the little boys (now older) actually came forward just recently to admit that HE WAS NOT MOLESTED - that in fact; his father had put him up to the lies. I was suckered along with many when the accusations came out.
The facts are that, Michael Jackson was a kid himself. He never grew up. Thus his dream to live in Neverland.

Pinetop Perkins' 80-year career still going

AP
Fri Nov 27, 2009 4:03am PST

AP - Noisy crowds in smoky bars don't bother 96-year-old bluesman Pinetop Perkins. It's all part of his job. Most nights, after he snuffs out his menthol cigarette, Perkins slides onto the piano bench in some club and … More »
