Buzz Log: The Most Memorable Moments From The Michael Jackson Memorial

Posted Tue Jul 7, 2009 2:06pm PDT by Michael Krumboltz in Stop The Presses!

Below are several of the biggest moments from Michael Jackson's memorial. Some are light-hearted, some are heart-breaking, but all are memorable.

Brooke Shields, a very good friend of Jackson's, shared some of her favorite memories. Ms. Shields choked up a bit at the end of her speech, giving a voice to many in the audience and at home who must have felt the same way.

The Reverend Al Sharpton credited Jackson with demolishing racial barriers. Sharpton also called on fans to not focus on the scars of Jackson's career, but to focus on the journey. To Jackson's kids he said: "There wasn't nothing strange about your daddy."

Magic Johnson's humorous story about how he was shocked to discover that a huge star like Michael Jackson enjoyed Kentucky Fried Chicken gave fans an insider's glimpse into an unknowable icon.

With all the star-power in the room, it was less expected that a 12-year-old from the U.K. would make a huge impression at the memorial, but Shaheen Jafargholi's performance of the Jackson 5's "Who's Loving You" inspired a raucous round of applause.

Jennifer Hudson is no stranger to tragedy. Perhaps that's why her performance of "Will You Be There" came across as one of the memorial's most special moments.

Michael's brother Jermaine Jackson performed MJ's favorite song: "Smile." The lyrics were especially poignant: "Smile, what's the use of crying/You'll find that life is still worthwhile/If you just smile."

Perhaps the most touching moment came at the very end of the memorial when Michael's daughter, Paris, expressed her love for her late father.

Mr. Dan, though we are all entitled to our own opinions, ignorance is bliss and you my friend must be a happy, happy man. In times of grief, one must be sensitive to others and their feelings.

I am very sorry you feel you have to post negative messages... Your battle must be difficult.

I adored Michael from the first moment I heard his voice. I cried like I lost my brother today. He will be so missed. But always in my heart. I hope that he finally has peace.
Love you forever M.J.

Michael Jackson was and will always be amazing and he has touch so many lives. I have cried over his death like he was a friend and that shows how great an influence he had. RIP MJ...thank you Michael Jackson, u will be remembered forever!

His death is sad for the children he left behind, but come on...enough...he was a singer...that's it. Why are we not putting on huge memorials for our troops who make pennies compared to the ungodly amount of money MJ made and spent. This is part of why this country is a mess...we idolize junkies and protest at the funerals of fallen hero's....very sad....

I was sooo sad ,it was such a great loss . I will always remember what a great artist we have lost. My thoughts and prayers go out to all the Jackson family and relatives. There is not another artist that shines..like Michael . He has touched more people than we can ever imagine.Watching today, showed just how much he is loved and always will be.

michael is a pervert and loves boys it great to know that he got what he deserved

Mr. Dan clearly believes everything he hears and can't take one moment not to be hateful, hurtful and disrespectful. I dare say, Heaven forbid someone rush to judgement on the dirt I'm sure they can manufacture for you. I pray that you will someday find peace. There are far better ways to spend your time than expressing hate. Get well soon. We haven't forgotten the allegations. We, unlike you just don't believe them! Have a blessed day!

Michael will truly be missed!!!He was the best of all times!!The jackson family is in our thoughts and prayers.

There is a difference between accused and convicted. Michael Jackson was never convicted of any charges. If committed that crime why did the parents of the so-called molested child accept money instead of sending to jail? this is common sence that the accusations were false. We believed him. The so-called accusers just wanted money from him. I am sure that if he was convicted child mollester, he would have rotted in jail. We all know that was all bull sheet

176. Yahoo! Music User -
Yes he made great music, but why did he buy off the family's if he were innocent of the charges. No one would do that if they didn't do anything. He made great music, but paying off those family's makes him look very guilty of molesting those kids.

177. Terry G -
M.J. RIP, Never shall we forget all you have brought to the entertainment world and the rest of us. You will be missed by millions.
I am so sorry no one ever understood you or believed in you through the malicious attacks you suffered through. I know you would never harm a child, you only wanted to be a child and have their innocence and love. Father God will watch over you now and you can Rock in Peace!!!!
Forever your friend,
T. Gardetto

I must admit that I think a lot of the publicizing of his death was too much and his family needs to grieve in private. However, I did watch the memorial and when his daughter Paris spoke at the end it broke my heart. My best wishes go to his children and I hope the media leaves them alone!

MJ will be missed -but the showcase of the who's who at the funeral kinda tainted the bereavement value. It was more like a concert...

180. Pinkpod -

Pinetop Perkins' 80-year career still going

AP
Fri Nov 27, 2009 4:03am PST

AP - Noisy crowds in smoky bars don't bother 96-year-old bluesman Pinetop Perkins. It's all part of his job. Most nights, after he snuffs out his menthol cigarette, Perkins slides onto the piano bench in some club and … More »
