Dec. 1- 8: Couples Only

Posted Thu Dec 4, 2008 5:47pm PST by Lyndsey Parker in That's Really Week

Couples dominated music news this week, starting off with Whitney Houston's disheartening denial of rumors regarding a reconciliation with her ex-husband, Bobby Brown. Why disheartening, you ask? Because this means there will be no long-hoped-for season 2 of Being Bobby Brown starring the infamously squabbling duo! We're seriously bummed...and we bet programming execs at the Bravo network are too. Oh well. Apparently she won't always love him, huh?

Another couple that once starred in their own reality show, Britney Spears and ex-husband Kevin Federline, made news this week. While the post-divorce Britney continued her second comeback attempt by releasing her Circus album and announcing plans for a world concert tour, the long-silent K-Fed spoke to the press about why their own tabloid marriage failed. "For me, I'd become more concerned with my children. Not that I ignored Britney, but my kids are always most important...I mean, we were having complications. I didn't give her an ultimatum, but I was trying to work stuff out with her, and she didn't even talk to me or anything and went behind my back and filed [for divorce]. Completely blindsided."

Unexpectedly, K-Fed even hinted that there might be a possibility of a reconciliation with Britney someday, telling People: "That's the mother of my children. Just because I'm not in love with her doesn't mean that I don't love her. I'm definitely rooting for her. There's nothing more that I want than for her to be in the best health and doing what she loves to do. I'm one to never say never. I mean, I'm not going to sit here and say I'm geared up to go that route, but who knows what the future holds for anybody."

So, could a season 2 of Britney & Kevin: Chaotic be heading to basic cable in the future? Well, that's another show we're not exactly sure we really want to see...but hey, we're happy to learn that Kevin is taking his daddy duties seriously, and that the Spederline sons' mommy is finally getting her life and career back on track.

Another tabloid-terror couple that ought to have their own reality series, Amy Winehouse and Blake Fielder-Civil, dealt with troubles of their own this week. Amy continued to languish in the hospital--where she's been holed up since November 23 for what her publicist describes as an "allergic reaction"--and Blake, who was recently released from prison to attend rehab, was shuttled back to jail after failing a mandated drug test. That means he'll have to serve out the rest of his 27-month assault sentence behind bars, and he won't be paroled until 2010.

The newly re-jailed Blake also followed K-Fed's lead and spoke surprisingly frankly to the press, remorsefully admitting to British gossip rag News Of The World that he is responsible for his wife's drug addiction. "I dragged Amy into it, and without me there is no doubt that she would never have gone down that road," he confessed. "I ruined something beautiful....If it wasn't for drugs, me and Amy would be so happy. Just without that in our lives--without crack and without heroin--Amy would be making beautiful music." Blake also declared that he was willing to end their marriage for Amy's sake, explaining: "Now I have to let her go to save her life. I am not abandoning her. I am doing this out of love."

However, despite Blake's remarks--and media reports that Amy has met with divorce attorneys--Amy's long-suffering aforementioned publicist denied that the Winehouse-Fielder-Civils are splitting up. So...could a series of Being Blake be in production soon? We're not sure, but we have a feeling it would be too hard to watch. The saga of this doomed union is just too tragic.

Another celebrity couple that made headlines this week was Barbados beauty Rihanna and her R&B heartthrob boyfriend Chris Brown. Luis Santana, a paparazzo for Florida's St. Petersburg Times, filed a lawsuit against the  hot singers for a cool $1 million, claiming their bodyguards beat him up and confiscated his camera when he tried to photograph them leaving a nightclub on Chris's 19th birthday earlier this year. According to Luis, he had permission from Chris's bodyguards to take photos of the couple in the club's parking lot, but "once I snapped pictures of Chris and Rihanna, Chris jumped out of the limo and his bodyguards began chasing me. One of the guys ripped my shirt off and grabbed me. They threw me to the ground and started kicking me. One of the guys put his knee in my face and was pressing down. I thought my jaw was going to break."

No charges have been filed in the case due to conflicting accounts of what actually took place that night. So Luis is seeking justice--or at least big bucks--in civil court instead. The million-dollar figure supposedly covers the cost of his confiscated camera, the photos he lost in the fracas, and compensation for his physical and emotional distress. Reps for both Chris and Rihanna have yet to comment on the case.

One couple of sorts that is reuniting, we're happy to report, is former Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker and superstar turntablist DJ AM. The musical cronies narrowly escaped death, and were badly burned, in a horrific September plane crash that killed two of their friends and the plane's two pilots. But it was announced this week that these survivors will soon perform together for the first time since the accident, as the headliners of the New Year's Nation's New Year's Eve party in Los Angeles, under the moniker TRSVJDAM. "I'm ready to get back onstage with AM and continue to rock the house," Travis said in a statement. "I'm very excited to bring in the New Year in my hometown of L.A." And we're very excited that these guys have recovered and are going back to work--what a great way for them to start off 2009.

And finally, on the subject of couples--and reality shows, for that matter--Paris Hilton chose her replacement for her former best buddy (former DJ AM gal pal), Nicole Richie, on this week's finale of My New BFF. Congrats to "winner" Brittany, we suppose. But perhaps more sign-of-the-apocalypse troubling was the revelation this week that Paris has completed recording her second album. An album which, unsurprisingly, has no label deal right now. An album supposedly influenced by Kylie Minogue. And an album on which PARIS WROTE ALL THE SONGS! Eek! Man, we're not sure even Paris's bestest BFF would be able to listen to that CD all the way through and tell Paris, with a straight face, that the songs on it were as good as "Can't Get You Outta My Head." Yeah, right. We wish Brittany luck with that.

And on that (off-key, heavily AutoTuned) note, we conclude this edition of That's Really Week. Our congratulations go out to this year's big Grammy nominees as well--no, Paris and Britney were NOT among them, but Coldplay and Lil' Wayne were--and until next week, goodnight, and good music.

Bobby and Whitney aside, K-Fed and Britney are the worst parents. I don't know what's worse, a mentally unstable teen queen raising two kids or an unkempt, douchebag rapper wannabe raising two kids. At least there are pills for Britney's condition. You can't cure douchebag.

I think being married and being famous is wow tough anyway the fact that they can try to somewhat keep there lives together and at least try to do whats right clearly speaks for itself. some just have a streak of bad luck mainly the press there constantly bombarding these people yes there famous but there also humans i say let them try to live a normal life as possible and let them be themselves life can be full of ups and downs nomatter who you are i say stay positive and keep doing what makes you happy and dont worry about what unhappy or purly bored people have to say as long as your you and stay real within yourself thats all you need much love have a great day!
