These Teddy Bears Ain't Having No Picnic

Posted Wed Sep 10, 2008 12:56pm PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Video Ga Ga

Kanye West's new Murakami-masterminded animated video, "Good Morning," is another instant Kanye classic. It follows the misadventures of the official West mascot, the Graduation Bear, as he rushes to make it to his commencement ceremony.

The Graduation Bear faces many obstacles along the way--a faulty alarm clock, a broken-down Delorean, a pack of angry football jocks, an unreliable Chicago subway system--but luckily, this video has a happy Technicolor ending when (spoiler alert) the Bear finally collects his well-earned diploma:

However, watching "Good Morning" reminds me of another cartoon-teddy-bear video that doesn't end so warmly or fuzzily. That is the Dears' "22: The Death Of All The Romance," which just might be THE saddest video of all time.

Seriously, there probably hasn't been such a heartbreaking moment in animation since Bambi's mother got offed. If you're not at least slightly misty-eyed by the end of this clip, then you clearly have no soul. Even Kanye himself would shed a tear for these poor plush toys.

So get out your economy-sized Kleenex boxes, store your razorblades and sleeping pills safely out of reach, and prepare to watch the Dears' harrowing saga of Armageddon and doomed stuffed-animal love:
