Hey Sia, What's Your Sign?

Posted Wed Sep 17, 2008 10:32am PDT by Lyndsey Parker in Video Ga Ga

Eccentric Australian songstress Sia--best known for her ballad "Breathe Me," which memorably and heartbreakingly soundtracked the harrowing last death scene in the Six Feet Under finale--is back with a new video, and it's real show of hands.

Having "always been obsessed with the beauty of sign language," Sia has incorporated it into her stunning video for "Soon We'll Be Found."

"To ignorant hearing me, the movement and expression appears as a dance--a beautiful, emotive dance. But the real beauty is the communication hidden within these perfect shapes," Sia explains.

And she's right. This a rare video that can be enjoyed with or without the sound on, literally:

That was beautiful. I didn't understand what she was saying, but hopefully those who know or use sign language did. It was a beautiful gesture...literally.

I take Sign Language at my College and this music video is a pioneering expression that I hope to see more of. She's quite adept with her ASL skills.
