Patriotic Songs For The 4th of July

Posted Tue Jul 1, 2008 2:33pm PDT by Robert of the Radish in The Y! Music Playlist Blog

July 4th is a day when Americans can put aside their political differences and celebrate the love they share for their country. No matter where you stand on the issues that face our nation, America is our home -- and we will always love our home. On Independence Day the skies of America will be lit by fireworks, children will be enraptured by parades and neighbors will gather at barbecues and picnics to celebrate the birth of their nation.

July 4 is a national holiday and the only holiday that celebrates the United States of America. Ask any American and they will tell you that the 4th of July is not complete without fireworks, American flags, American food and music.

Musical choices for the 4th include traditional patriotic songs, military marches and regional favorites. For this playlist I have pulled together some of the most popular songs that will be played at events across the USA on the 4th of July.

If your holiday will be spent at home, at a picnic with friends or at the community fireworks display this playlist can provide the soundtrack for your evening.

I like a lot of the songs up there, but one I like a lot is Critical Acclaim by Avenge Sevenfold. It's not really patriotic but it does push for people to take responsibility for their actions and for their country. It's a good dose of reality. =)

I think number #2 and 13 ought to go live in some other country, they don't deserve to live in the Land of the Free and brave. By the way has either been to Iraq yet.

When I saw this article, I thought it would be more like the list so many of you are talking about. However, after actually *reading* the article, I then look at the list, and agree. This is not a list of the most popular patriotic songs necessarily. It's a list of patriotic songs most often played at big celebrations on the 4th of July, such as a city's fireworks presentation. I agree, many of the songs you have listed would go high on my list of patriotic songs, and I'll also admit to hearing and liking them much more than, for example, the West Point March, however, at big demonstrations like that these songs *are* the ones played. With that in mind, based on the premise of the article preceding the list, I agree with the list.
