Songs That Start With Telephone Sounds

An artist can add interest to a song when they incorporate non-musical sounds into a recording. The sound of rain, conversation, cars, nature and telephones are some of the first that come to mind when I think about everyday sounds I've heard used often in popular music.

Starting a track with a telephone ringing can set up the song as if it were an actual telephone conversation (and it some cases it is). This is a well worn tactic, but one I found interesting to explore.

This playlist includes songs that start with the sound of a telephone. Whether it’s a phone ringing, a dial tone, a busy signal or buttons being pressed. I know there are a ton of these tracks out there, so chime in on any I've missed. But remember, it has to be a telephone sound and it has to kick off the track.

Great lists as always! But might I add Spacehog's "In the Meantime"?

I know another one: Ike and Tina Turner's "Tell Her I'm Not Home" (1965), that starts with a phone ringing and a conversation.

Doesn't Madonna's song "Hung Up" start out that way?

I also think there might be a few omissions from the hip hop genre, or maybe I'm just thinking of the answering machine messages that Eminem puts on his albums to demonstrate his label's terror over his subject matter!

8. Megan -
Ratt's classic "Got Me On the Line"

9. __A_YAHOO_USER__ -
Vanessa Williams - The Right Stuff

Yes, the one from "Ugly Betty" and the ex beauty queen.
