Two Must-Have CD/DVD Box Sets

Rocking The Cradle Egypt 1978  by The Grateful Dead

 (Listen - Rhapsody) TRAILER

Deadheads can rejoice about this kind 2 CD/1 DVD box set released just this month by Rhino Records. The well packaged box set (including a pop-up fold out)captures an historic event. In September 1978 the Grateful Dead performed in Cairo, Egypt, a stones throw from the Great Pyramid and the Sphinx. Rocking the Cradle (as in the cradle of civilization) captures the must-have live performances in exceptional quality on two CDs. These discs are a required addition for any fan, but on top of this the DVD includes over 95 minutes of live performance and personal footage that provides fascinating insight into the band. You'll even see a young Bill Walton in behind-the-scenes footage.

Johnny Cash's America by Johnny Cash

 (Listen - Rhapsody) TRAILER

Here's another CD/DVD must-have combo. The documentary Johnny Cash's America premiered on the A&E/Biography Channel and does a fine job of capturing that part of the man in black that transcends all. Sure Cash was an important songwriter and performer, but he also is one of the most respected musicians in history across musical cliques, political ideologies, religious beliefs and subcultures. Everyone loves Johnny Cash -- Democrats and Republicans, blacks and whites, punks, hillbillies and rednecks, the religious and the condemned. In my view this CD/DVD set is the perfect piece of media for election time when people divide so fiercely. Johnny Cash IS America. He wouldn't give a damn who you're voting for next week, but he'd kick your ass if you don't vote. We should all take the lesson he gave us to heart.
